Silver Haired
Legislature.
Gunn said 101 persons
from all over the state
participated in the Silver
Haired Legislature as
senators or represen
tatives. He said persons
participating in the
special event were 60
years old or older, and
that the three-day session
was held last Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday
(Nov. 12-14.)
“The oldest person
there was a black man
who was 93 years old, and
he was very active,”
Gunn recalled.
Gunn said both houses
of the Silver Haired
Legislature approved
eight bills that will be
considered by the 1980
session of the Georgia
General Assembly. He
noted that there are now
670,000 persons living
in Georgia who are over
60, and that they are
consistent voters and
have an enormous impact
on the outcome of any
local or state election.
“We received royal
treatment when we were
in Atlanta,” Gunn said.
“Gov. George Busbee
and Lt. Gov. Zell Miller
spoke to us, and we were
treated to some out
standing meals. We
stayed at the Stadium
Hotel, and buses were
provided to transport us
back and forth to the
capitol building.”
Bills passed by both
houses of the 1979 Silver
