Perry High School Athletic Director
Perry At Home Friday
There is nothing to
compare with watching
high school athletes grow
and mature. We are
b'essed at Perry High to
hfcve a number of young
nun and women who
hav? the desire to better
themselves athletically
and personally. The
Panther basketball team
has a number of these
types of individuals.
Lonnie Boone. Chuck
Langston, Frank Lester,
Darryl Albritton, Nick
Felder, and others have
put in long , hard hours to
make their team suc
cessful. At the moment
they stand 3-1. A fan sees
the game and either is
pleased or disappointed.
The players have to
either improve or suffer
a team mom and each
received a special
plaque.
There were four people
who served as a head
coach in one sport and
asst, coach in another so
for that special plaques
went to Kenneth Ban
nister in baseball and
football asst., John D.
Brown in baseball and
football asst., Shirley
Collins in baseball and
cheerleader mom asst,
and to teenager Dennis
Peavy in baseball and
basketball asst.
defeats. The kind of
players we feel we are
beginning to build at
Perry High are the ones
that want to continue to
improve.
The Perry Pan
therettes are also playing
good basketball. The girls
also stand 3-1, and are
looking forward to
Friday’s battle with
Dodge County at the
Perry gym. Jeanese
Wallace, Francis Owens,
Vicki Woodard, Renae
Satterfield. Angela
Whitfield, and others are
improving and hustling
for Coach James Kin
chen.

Three people worked as

baseball and basketball,
Clarence Copeland
baseball and football, and
Toney Raffield basket
ball and baseball.
Rarely is any volunteer
able to coach in three
sports a year if they have
to work for a living as
that requires 365 days
without a break. Large,
special plaques were
proudly presented, with
emblems of all three
grapplers are young and
inexperienced. It will
take time for them to
develop and get con
sistent.
We would like to fill the
gym Friday night as our
teams open the home
season. Dodge County
has a good basketball
team and is probably one
of our biggest “enemies”.
Help the Panthers by
attending the game and
by giving them a lot of
noisy, exciting support.
They need your help.
Believe in them and they
will give you a night of
exciting basketball.

sports, to the select trio of
super workers of Paul
Hartman, Nathaniel
Tharpe and Bobby
Woodard.
Special longevity
plaques recognized three
volunteers for their
devotion to coaching.
Rodney Bridges for five
years in baseball, Jim
Parker for ten years in
football and Richard
Smith for ten years in
baseball.
The Booster club
presented “Sonny”
Heard with a large Eagle
emblem plaque
recognizing him as a
dedicated and tireless
volunteer worker in
public recreation serving
as club president for
three years, head softball
coach three years and
head basketball coach
two years.
The highlight of the
awards program was
when the club honored
Jack Huckaby longtime
volunteer worker, a
founder of the club and a
supporter of Perry youth
who died in early 1979.
Over the past decade
Huckaby served the club
as a member of the Board
of Directors, Vice
President, Treasurer,
basketball program
head, head coach in
basketball, baseball and
softball, football asst,
coach, chief equipment
man in all sports and was
highly active in all fund
raising projects. At the
conclusion of basketball
in 1979 he had completed
ten years service. His
widow Mary Ann and
children Ed and Robin
were on hand to receive a
beautiful plaque, in
Jack’s memory, for those
years of dedication.
