County Sets Fire
Tax Exemptions
Fire tax exemptions
and a new stove for
county prisoners were
among the topics
discussed by the Houston
County Commission
during a regular meeting
at Perry Courthouse
Tuesday.
Acting on a motion by
Commissioner Charles
Carter, and with the
advice and consent of Tax
Commissioner Joyce
Griffin, commissioners
voted to exempt 157
senior citizens from the
S2O fire tax in unin
corporated areas of the
county.
As outlined by Carter,
the exemptions will apply
to senior citizens who
qualify for age-income
tax exemptions, or school
tax exemptions.
The subject was

the hostages be released
this would be a
Thanksgiving service,

Averette, pastor of the
Kathleen Baptist Church.
The public is invited to
attend.

governing body when
Commission Chairman J.
Frank Rozar mentioned
that he had received a
number of phone calls
from senior citizens on
fixed and limited in
comes.
In other action,
Commissioner V.W.
McEver’s motion to buy a
new stove for the
Correctional Institute
was approved by
unanimous vote. To be
purchased at a cost of
$995 from Macon
Restaurant Supply, the
new stove will replace
one that is reported to be
leaking gas.
Purchasing Agent Bill
Roach said the old stove
has been declared as
unsafe by the county
safety committee.
RIVERBOTTOM
RAMBUNGS
BY WAYNE ALLEN
Now About That Boar
Finally, after endless
searching, we came upon
the perfect wild boar
decoy. It must be red
haired, freckled,
somewhat unco
ordinated and a little bit
careless. One of the
members of our club
meets the above
description perfectly, as
he so atply demonstrated
last weekend.
After dropping a small
hog neatly in its tracks
the gentleman stepped
down from his stand just
in time to find himself the
intended 2nd course on a
somewhat unhappy
Russian sow’s bill of fare.
Unable to unsling his rifle
from his shoulder (for
ever this cool headed
propigator of myths had
lost his calm in the face of
terror) he fired one shot
with his rifle still slung
upon his shoulder, hoping
to frighten the hog away.
Failing at that point he
threw down his weapons
and made a hasty retreat
up a tree, flashing as a
truce flag the whites of
his eyes which 1 am sure
were at least the size of
saucers. As he described
it, sitting astride the
slowly dipping sappling
he had climbed, he
assured us that the only
fear he felt was that the
chagrined lady hog would
carry off his rifle.
Tales of ferocious at
tacks like this are not
uncommon in the dark
forests of Georgia. A good
friend of mine was bitten
by a dangerous squirrel a
couple of winters back,
and still carries ferocious
a l,f)4th inch long scar on
one of his fingers.
Perhaps more
dangerous than the man
attacked by the animal is
the man who attacks
himself. A certain hunter
visiting in this area
during the hunting
season, had an extremely
purgatoric experience
one morning with a
climbing stand. As his
hand climber broke, he
fell over backwards with
his feet still in the stirrup
of the climbing stand.
Finding himself upside
down and just barely
within reach of mother
earth, he somehow
managed to pull himself
back onto the platform of

much less strenuous life
now, he usually spends
his mornings clumping
around in the brush
breaking sticks with his
big feet. He makes so
much racket, that I am

Humorous though they

there really is no place

and their inhabitants are
vicious, on the contrary, I
feel much safer there

Since there were so many
people killed in

will promote a bill to have
all automobiles outlawed.
Especially those compact
cars which we all know
serve no real purpose

Incidentally, I un
