that the 1979 United Way
Campaign in Houston
County has made its
watch words for the 1979
Campaign “More Than
Ever Before” a reality
today. A goal of $364,000
was set for the 1979
Campaign and the goal
has been reached and

5370,382.00!!! The Perry,
Warner Robins and
Federal Divisions all

Many people are
responsible for our
success this year and
those of us involved in the
“79” Campaign, want to
personally thank each
and every one who
contributed. The key to
our success, of course,
was the generous con
tributions made by the
many citizens of our
community, the em
ployees of the businesses,
financial institutions,
Houston County School
System, city and county
employees and the in
dustries in our area. The
generous contributions of
our excellent corporate
citizens in our area
played a big roll. Robins
Air Force Base and its
military and civilian
personnel need a special
thanks for their excellent
support thru the Middle
Georgia Area Combined
Federal Campaign. The
military and Federal
Employees contributed
$271,567.00!!
Ferguson further
stated “There are too
many campaigners and
contributors to thank
each and every one
.personally. Never the
;less, they all know who
•they are and should be
•extremely proud to have
-played a very important
• part in the most suc
cessful campaign in the
of the United Way
lof Houston County.

Robins Division. These
folks proved that there is
no substitute for personal
involvement and total
commitment! A special
thanks to the news, radio
and TV media for their
excellent support and
coverage of all aspects of
our campaign.
This year we needed a
greater increase in
pledges. Although dif
ficult times existed, the
fine citizens and
businesses of our com
munity responded well
to the challenge. The
victory of our campaign
is a tribute to economic
vitality of our fine
community.
As we approach the
Christmas Season, we
can rejoice in the
knowledge that many
people really care, they
gave of their time and
money to be of service to
their fellow man.
Ferguson further
stated that the Budget
Committee, chaired by
L.A. “Buster” Mc-
Connell, will meet on
December 12 to deter
mine the distribution of
funds to the 13 affiliated
agencies.
To the many volunteer
workers and especially
the people who con
tributed so generously
this year, on behalf of our
13 United Way Agencies,
“Thanks to You, The
United Way will be
working in 1980 in
Houston County.”
Wisconsin Lutheran Synod To
Hold Exploratory Services In Perry
On October 14th, the
Wisconsin Evangelical
Lutheran Synod held
information meetings in
Perry and Warner
Robins. The purpose of
those meetings were: to
acquaint the general
public with the history
and theological stance of
the Wisconsin
Evangelical Lutheran
Synod; to answer any
questions; and to see if
there would be interest in
beginning a conservative
Lutheran church in this
area.
The response to those
meetings was positive

Evangelical Lutheran
Synod’s Mission Board to
begin weekly exploratory
services in Middle
Georgia. Rev. Wayne L.
Fischer from Decatur,
Georgia is now con
ducting services for all
those interested. Tem
porarily, the services are
being held each Sunday
at 5:30 p.m. at St.
Christopher’s Episcopal
Church, in Perry. Sunday
School and Bible Class
are held at 4:30 p.m.
The 130-year-old
Wisconsin Synod has
been described by
Lutheran observers as
the “church most un-
compromising in its .JP
dedication to confessional
Lutheranism.” Because
of its faithful adherance
to the Bible as /‘the in
spired, inerrant Word of
God -- the only Guide for
faith and life,” the Synod
has experienced rapid
growth over the past two
decades.
The church body is
comprised of 1100
congregations throughout
the United States; it
maintains one of the
largest elementary
school systems among
protestant church bodies;
and, in addition to its
seminary, maintains
three colleges and
eighteen Lutheran High
Schools, including the
largest Lutheran High
School in the United
States.
The members of the
synod support 280 mission
churches in the United
States and have sent
missionaries to Africa,
South America, Japan,
India, the West Indies,
Mexico, Puerto Rico,
Indonesia and Hong
Kong.
The Wisconsin Synod,
so named because of its
Mid-western beginning in
1849, is working towards
the establishment of a
congregation in the
Middle Georgia area.
A spokesman for the
synod said, “We want to
establish a congregation
in which all might know
Jesus Christ as their only
hope for eternal life, and
might have the daily
comfort and strength of
His presence.”
Everyone is invited to
attend the exploratory
services each Sunday at
5:30 p.m. For further
information call 987-4857
or Pastor Fischer at (404)
241-6093.
