Hornets Fall In Semifinals
Westfield Trimmed In Finals By Fullington

Westfield traveled to
Macon last Tuesday night
to meet River North and
came back winners as the
girls overwhelmed the
opposition 68-29 while the
boys had a tougher time
but prevailed by a score
of 56-51. Sharp-shooting
senior Lynn Davidson led
both teams with 25 point,
hitting 11 of 15 from the
filed along with three free
throws while sophomore
Marion Davidson led the
Hornettes with 12
rebounds. The Hornettes
shot 48 percent from the
field and 8 of 13 from the
foul line. They also had
20 team assists, which is
a testimony to ball
movement.
Sophomore Cater
Pierce came off the
bench and poured in 16
points with four steals to
lead the Hornets. Tommy
Miller also made a
productive contribution
with seven assists while
Reid Meyer and Alan
Brown had 8 rebounds
apiece. The Hornets shot
21 of 48 from the field, 14
of 23 from the foul line
and grabbed 29 rebounds.

The Westfield Hor
nets advanced to the
finals of the Fullington
Christmas Tournament
with an exciting 62-60 win
over Southland last
Wednesday night at
Pinehurst. The Hornettes
were not as fortunate,
losing 44-35 to a taller
Southland team.
Hornette scoring leader
Lynn Davidson was held
to 8 points on 13 percent
field goal shooting. In
fact, the entire team only
made 14 of 61 attempts
from the field while
shooting 50 percent from
the foul line. Leading
scorer for the Hornettes
was Terri Grimes with 10
points.
The Hornets were
blessed with fine per
formances from Perry
Stanley and Cater Pierce,
who scored 8 of his 12
points in the crucial
fourth quarter. Stanley
finished with a team high
18 points and 7 assists.
Reid Meyer had 7
rebounds while Ricky
Johnson corralled six.
The Hornets made 30 of 63
field goal attempts while 1“
only given three chances
at the foul line and
making two of those.

Despite 22 points from
Cater Pierce and 16 from
Perry Stanley, the
Westfield Hornets were
defeated 65-54 by
Fullington in the finals of
the Fullington Christmas
Tournament last Friday
night in Pinehurst.
Mighty-mite Pierce, who
is rapidly making himself
accounted for bv his play,
hit 8 of 18 from the field
and 6 of 9 from the foul
line. Stanley, who is
fitting into a made of
consistency, hit 7 of 13
field goal attempts with 2
free throws. The Hornets
shot only 40 percent from
the field and would not
have lost by 11 had they
not missed 10 free throws
out of 24 attempts.
