Lite-A-Lite
Contributions for the Pilot Club Lite-A-Lite
Project are gradually climbing on the Lite-A-
Lite thermometer at the Perry Houston County
Hospital. Pilot Club members Mrs. Jewell
Mcßae (L) and Mrs. Norma Wilson (R), and
Mrs. Anna Marie Meens. hospital dietician, are
shown above pointing to the Lite-A-Lite goal of
$4,000 for the purchase of a K.D.C. Heart and
Respiratory Monitor for the Perry Hospital.

Story Time All Set
Story time at the Perry Library will
present a “Two Hour Extravaganza”
featuring stories, cartoons, games and films
beginning at 1 p.m.
Due to this special program all other story
hours for the week are cancelled.
Regular storytime hours Wednesday at
10:30 a.m. and Thursday 10:30 a.m. and 4
p.m. will resume Jan. 2, 1980.
This special story time will be Thursday,
Dec. 27th.

Pritchett
Mrs. Charlotte Prit
chett, Perry Christmas
Seal Chairman recently
received an award from
the American Lung
Association for out
standing volunteer
contribution. The award
was made for her
scrapbook entry to the
American Lung
Association Public
Relations Awards. The
scrapbook outlined her
work last year as Perry
Christmas Seal Chair
man and depicted the
efforts of Charlotte and
the citizens of Perry in
action for the Lung
Association. Included
were the Perry Christ
mas Seal Walkathon
which raised $3,800, and
the Perry 4-Ball Benefit
Golf Tournament,
sponsored by the Perry
Country Club which
raised $1,300.
In announcing the
award, Jean K. Smith,
Public Relations
Association for the
American Lung
Association in New York,
said, "Mrs. Pritchett’s
entry certainly
represented imaginative,
resourceful projects with
great involvement of the
community and much
excellent publicity, plus
fine fund-raising results.
Mrs. Pritchett appears to
be a one-woman
whirlwind - all on behalf
of the Lung Association.”
Mrs. H.E. Kinney,
president of the Georgia
Lung Association
recently presented the
award to Charlotte at the
Georgia Lung
Association Board
meeting in Atlanta. "If
we could harness
Charlotte Pritchett’s
energy and enthusiasm,
it would be enough to
light up the Atlanta
skyline for days.

In Time For Christmas
Council Pays Bills
Perry City Council
convened Tuesday night
mainly to pay bills
amounting to $29,844.36 so
area businessmen could
have their money by
Christmas, but a number
of other problems were
also resolved during the
session.
Acting on a motion by
Councilman Ralph
Gentry, the city gover
ning body approved the
installation of a street
light near 902 Ross St.,
Hickson Memorial
Scholarships Awarded
Scholarship awards for
the 1978-1979 school year
have been announced by
the Board of Trustees for
the Seabie Hickson
Memorial Scholarship
Fund. Four young ladies
will be receiving
scholarship funds; Karen
Duncan, Susan Land,
Gail Bannister, and
Brenda Faye Ransom.
Each has received the
recommendation of
members of her college
faculty.
Karen Duncan is a
senior at the University
of Georgia School of
Agriculture. While
working toward a BSA
Degree in Food Science,
Karen has maintained a
3.5 grade point average.
In addition she enjoys
participation in many
extra-curricular ac
tivities. This year Karen
has been elected to of
fices in the Golden Key
National Honor Society,
the UGA Pre-Vet Club,
and the UGA Food
Science Club. She is also
a member of the Alpha
Lambda Delta Honor
Brenda Ransom
and another motion by
Gentry to act on a
recommendation by the
city Planning and Zoning
Board to permit ac
cessory buildings on
commercial property.
Gentry explained that a
public hearing will be
held on the proposal at a
regular council meeting
on Jan. 15. He said it
would be necessary to
advertise the proposal
before it could be in
corporated in the city’s
Sorority and has been
selected to be a little
sister for Alpha Psi, a
professional veterinary
fraternity Karen lives in
Kathleen when she is not
in Athens. Her parents
are Mr. and Mrs. Donald
G. Duncan.
Susan Land is a Mercer
University senior,
majoring in Accounting.
Her special interest is
music. She continues to
study music at Mercer
and works in the
department as an ac
companist for other
students taking voice
lessons. Susan also works
as a student assistant for
the Director of Financial
Aid at Mercer. Even with
this busy schedule, she
maintains a 3.65 grade
point average. Susan is
an active church member
and plans to attend a
Baptist Seminary after
she graduate from
Mercer in June. Susan is
the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. E.C. Land of
Warner Robins.

entering her senior year

Councilman Draper
Watson pointed out that
the first regular meeting
in January would fall on
New Year’s Day unless it
was ch ged. He made a
motion to change the
meeting date to Thur
sday, Jan. 3, and the
measure was approved
by council.
Watson informed
council that the city will
accept delivery on a new
at Valdosta State College
in January. She looks
forward to graduation
and to a career in
teaching in her field of
Physical Education and
Recreation. While a
student at Valdosta, she
has been a member of the
volleyball team and is
active in the Physical
Education Club. She also
works as a student
assistant at VSC. Gail is
the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Thomas, Jr,
of Hayneville.
Brenda Faye Ransom
is a student at the
University of Georgia.
She is also working
toward a career as a
teacher. Her special field
is Early Childhood
Education. Brenda’s
parents are Mr. Billy
Ransom of Ft. Myers,
Florida and Mrs. Helen
Ransom of Perry.
This scholarship fund
for loans and grants to
Houston County residents
has been established by
friends as a memorial to
the late Seabie W.
Hickson, Assistant

In other action, Gentry
asked Public Works
Director Ed Warren to
provide a new street sign
for Cherokee St., and
Warren stated that he
would comply with the
request.
Superintendent of
Houston County Schools.
Seabie devoted his time
and talents to the
education of the children
of this county for twenty
three years. To continue
the work interrupted by
his untimely death is a
fitting tribute to one who
cared so deeply and
worked so diligently to
upgrade educational
opportunities for Houston
County students.
