Chamber Executives
Hear Dr. Calvert
Dr. Jon Calvert who is
chairman of the
Department of Family
Practice at the Medical
College of Georgia was
the guest speaker at last
Wednesday’s organ
izational meeting of
the Central Georgia
Dr. Calvert
Chamber of Commerce
Executives Council held
in Perry. Dr. Calvert
spoke to the group
about physician
recruitment for com
munities and approaches
that successful com
munities in Georgia had
used. Also present was
Max Poole, Perry -
Garden Club Meets
The Rosewood Garden
Club held its November
meeting Wednesday and
featured a program on
Christmas decorations.
The program was
presented by the Club’s
president, Ms. B.G,
Harless, who has
developed flat designs in
Houston County Hospital
Administrator who

the hospital’s presen
tation that was used at
the recent Medical Fair
sponsored by the Medical
College in an effort to
assist small com
munities.
This Council is being
formed with the primary
function being in
formation sharing and
exchange of ideas for the
Chambers in the middle

Sumter County Chamber

organizational meeting.

Pabst Gets Safety Award
The local plant of the
Pabst Brewing Company
recently received the
National Safety Council
Award of Honor for
outstanding safety
performance during the
past year.
In a letter to Anthony J.
Amendola, president of
Pabst, National Safety
Council President Vin
cent L. Tofany wrote,
“The Award of Honor is
the highest recognition
presented by the National
Safety Council for out
standing occupational
safety performance is
achieved by management
making a commitment to
preventing accidents and
occupational illnesses
and then following
through so that
supervisors and all
members of the work
force understand that
safety and health are
priority concerns.”
The letter continued
that Pabst’s achievement
in safety excellence ‘‘can

Mclntyre
James Willie Mclntyre,
86, of 416 Gordy St.,
Perry, died Saturday,
November 15, 1980 in a
Hawkinsville hospital
following a brief illness.
Services were held at 4
p.m. Monday at
Memorial Heights
Baptist Church with the
Rev. Gordon Buchanan
officiating. Burial was in
Woodlawn Cemetery in
Perry.
Mr. Mclntyre, a native
of Dooly County, had
lived in Perry for the past
35 years. He was a retired
sawmill operator and a
Baptist.

Our sympathy goes out
to Mrs. Harold Cook and
family in the death of her
mother Mrs. Irene Arnold
who passed away Sunday
afternoon in Middle
Georgia hospital in
Macon.
Mr. Lawrence Peebles,
Columbia Seminary
student filled the pulpit in
the Clinch field
Presbyterian Church
Sunday. He also visited in
the community Sunday
afternoon.
Funeral for Mrs. Irene
Arnold, was held in Harts
in Macon Tuesday at 2:00
p.m., with burial in
Liberty Methodist
Church cemetery.

To receive the award,
the company runs against
its own safety record. The
local plant previously
won the award in 1977.
In the National Safety
Contests for breweries in
the United States and
Canada, the local plant
has received third place
for the past three years.
The plant, located on
Georgia Highway 247
spur, began production
ten years ago.
Survivors include his
wife, Mrs. Annie Lee
Altman Mclntyre of
Perry; three daughters,
Mrs. Sula Layson and
Mrs. Ruth Wood, both of
Perry and Mrs. Gladys
Bonner of Warner
Robins; a son, Harris
Mclntyre of Perry; a
sister, Mrs. Annie Lee
Busby of Unadilla; a
brother, Mr. Alonzo
Mclntyre of Unadilla; 14
grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren.
Watson - Hunt Funeral
Home of Perry had
charge of arrangements.
Wilson, Elko, had lunch
with Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Thompson, Thursday.
Mrs. Jewel Thompson
and Mrs. Harriett Huff
spent Wednesday in
Macon shopping.
The Houston County
Senior Citizens held the
monthly business
meeting at Ted Wright
Club House Thursday
November 13. Mr. Ken
Elder cooked and served
delicious pancakes to the
group. A shopping trip to
Atlanta is planned for
Dec. 2. The group looks
forward to this trip each
year.
