! Thanksgiving day is here! Our turkey is ready
all the trimmings, what a wonderful day it
will be. The Nook is a little late for Thanksgiving
• cooking but we have recipes for the last minute,
: and for the weekend ahead.
: We’ll also talk of Christmas ideas. The first is
-for the best candied grapefruit peel I’ve had,
• Tingle’s Candied Grapefruit Peel. “Tis delicious
: and a marvelous holiday sweet. You have time to
:make a bit for Thanksgiving if you’ll hurry.
Next is Totsie’s Bing Cherry Salad, this one is
J the best ever, and the men “love” this salad. It’s
•grand for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The
; Orange Balls are not baked, you might like these
: for your holiday table. And so we go on into the
! holidays.
• TINGLE’S CANDIED GRAPEFRUIT PEEL
; 3or 4 grapefruit, cut peel in small strips. Cover
I strips with water and bring to a boil. Cook for 5 or
• J.O minutes, drain. Cover with water again,
■ cook and drain as before, cook in 3 or 4 waters.
; Drain in colander. Next, add 1 cup
•.granulated sugar to 1 cup peel. Place in boiler,
'stir, let sugar dissolve. Cook on medium heat
! until very little syrup remains and peel looks
:transparent. (This takes time, but is worth it.)
• Place peel in colander and drain. Spread out on a
tray. Roll peel in granulated sugar. Spread out to
;dry. Cool and pack in air-tight container. Note:
!Use pink and white grapefruit and you will not
’need to add coloring.

Brinkley Wins Watchdog Os Treasury Award
Congressman Jack
Brinkley of Georgia’s
Third District has been
awarded the “Watchdog
of the Treasury Award.”
The National Associated
Businessmen (NAB),
which announced
Brinkley’s selection
during recent Capitol Hill
ceremonies, said the
Columbus Democrat was
being recognized for his
strong record of voting
against unnecessary
federal’spending.
Brinkley was among 35
Senators and 179
Representatives honored
by NAB. The recipients
were chosen for their
high scores on NAB’s
“Economy Voting
Record,” an index of
congressional attitudes
toward economy in
government.
In the 96th Congress 10
Senators scored 100
percent and 49 scored 50
percent or better. This
represents a significant
improvement over the
previous EVR survey,
and may reflect growing
support in the Senate for
fiscal prudence. On the
other hand, 36 Senators

scored 33.3 percent or
lower in the latest
compilation.
In the latest EVR 62
Representatives scored
100 percent and 219 voted
for economy at least 50
percent of the time.
However, 189
Representatives voted
for economy 33.3 percent

as a whole, the House
seems to have slipped
slightly since the last
Congress.
