Rec, Boosters Meet
* Recently the Public
recreation Boosters of
Perry held an awards
banquet to honor its
many volunteer workers.
Paul Hartman, Booster
President, and Sonny
Heard, Awards Chair
man, presented the
awards following a
delicious meal. Special
guests recognized were
Mayor Barbara Calhoun,
Gene Smith and Thomas
Mayo, councilman.
Hartman told the large
crowd of the untiring
efforts of the dedicated
volunteers and invited
coaches, parents and any
persons interested in
public recreation to at
tend the monthly meeting
of the Recreation
Boosters. Meetings are
held the first Monday,
*ach month, at the
Eastgate Branch, Bank
of Perry at 7:00 p.m.
The first group
receiving plaques were
the sponsors, various
Perry businesses, about
twenty-one, recognized
for their donations which
helps public recreation to
continue and grow.
Sponsorships were begun
by the club in 1974 and
several sponsors have
been continuous for seven
straight years. One
sponsor receiving a
special, five year
milestone plaque was
Suwannee Swiftee Food
Store. The other sponsors
in 1980 were; Sports
Center, Sing Oil Inc.,
Kellwood Co., Richard
son Realty, Leigh
Casuals, Dairy Queen,
Lumpkin Shell, Perry
Civitan, Bank of Perry,
Tom Chapman, Getz,
Perry Lions Club,

Recognition next went

their many tireless ef

coaches and those

1 Cheerleader mothers
and trainers were cited
by Hartman for their long
practice hours in training
young girls in this skill.
Most of the trainers are
young teenagers and
reflect credit to Perry
youth in their area of
service. Natalie Norris
was honored with a large,
special plaque for her
five consecutive years as
a trainer. Others honored

Mrs. Tucker Earns Award
Betty H. Tucker of
Warner Robins recently
received a Quality Salary
Increase for outstanding
work on her job with the
Air Force Reserve at
Robins AFB.
She is a secretary in the
Directorate of Services
and Reserve Resources,

Engineering and Services

Coaches who worked
twice as hard by coaching
in two sports were
praised by Hartman as he
presented them special
plaques for their double
efforts. These well
deserved people were;
Joe Adkins, Linda
Singleary, Jean Faulk,
Joe Kirby, Mark Hurst,
Terry Wentz, Edward
Simon, Frank Lester,
Horace Gilbert, Virgil
Lawson, Paul Hartman.
Highly honored were a
select group of coaches,
those who coached in
three sports meaning a
year round effort of
sacrifice volunteer work.
Hartman was lavish in
his credit to these unique
people for their
dedication and loyalty to
the local youth. These
rare, unselfish coaches
were: John Brown,
Clarence Copeland,
Bobby Woodard.
Awards chairman,
Sonny Heard, closed the
honors by presenting a
plaque to club president,
Paul Hartman for his
coaching of two sports
and a very special plaque
from Booster members
for Hartman’s 1980 ef
forts in behalf of Perry
youth. Heard cited
Hartman’s daily
voluntary efforts to ob
tain the best public
recreation for Perry kids.
This tribute moved the
crowd to its feet for a
standing ovation for
Hartman. Thanking those
for attending Hartman
invited all interested to
the monthly club
meeting.

Ms. Tucker is a
graduate of Perry High
School. She also attended
the Georgia - Alabama
Business School in Macon
and the University of
Georgia, where she
majored in Secretarial
Sciences.
She has one daughter,
Debra Ann, 24.

This was a record breaking year for contributions to United Way from
