Last week while
walking through one of
the local bookstores, as I
am prone to do, I spied
the new paperback copy
of Brando For Breakfast.
I had read and reviewed
this book a few months
ago when it was first
released in hardback.
Picking it up, I opened
the first page and there in
quotes was “Hell hath no
fury like a woman
scorned, especially one
who writes a book.” -
Houston Home Journal.
1 Now many people will
think that is Houston,
Texas, but I know and
now you know that the
quote belongs to Jackie
K. Cooper.
I just finished reading
the new Phyllis A.
Whitney novel Polnciana.
If you are a Whitney fan
then you will be assured
of a few nights of reading
pleasure. It is a story in
the same romantic vein
as all of her other books.
Once again there is a
young woman, orphaned
by the death of her
parents, rescued from a
dire situation by a
romantic older man, and
soon involved in murders
and other thrilling
situations.
Whitney, like Victoria
Holt, is a master at this
type of novel. The more
you read them the better
they become. Os course if

you are interested in the
Rosemary Rogers type of
slightly wicked romantic
novel, this one may be too
tame for you. Whitney
always hints at the love
life of her characters. She
is never explicit.
My wife says a Whitney
or a Holt novel is like
receiving a Christmas
present at any time
during the year. If you
have been waiting for the
new Whitney novel, then
Merry Christmas. It’s
here.
I also saw two movies
this week. The first was
the film “The Stunt
Man’’. It stars Peter
O’Toole, Steven
Railsback, and Barbara
Hershey. It is a strange
film which keeps the
audience guessing as to
who are the heroes and
ther villains right up to
the end. O’Toole hasn’t
been this good in a movie
since “Lawrence of
Arabia”. There is talk of
an Oscar nomination for
him. I don’t think he will
win but he was good.
You might remember
Railsback from his
Charles Manson role in
the TV movie “Helter
Skelter”. In this new film
he still acts a little
maniacal but it is proper
for this role also. Barbara
Hershey is beautiful and
charming. She does not
have the acting
capability of O’Toole or
Railsback but her role
doesn’t require that she
have it. She does appear
nude in some scenes and
this plus the language
earns the film an “R”
rating.
“The Stunt Man” is as 1
unique a film as J
Hollywood has turned out r
in some time. I
thoroughly enjoyed it.
I also saw “The Black
Stallion”. This film has
been in release for some
time but it is being
brought back for people
to see it again or to catch
those, like me, who
missed it the first time
around. It is based on the
classic childrens’ story.
The movie is visually a
masterpiece. There are
scenes of stunning
beauty. The plot line is
really incidental as all
that is important is the
relationship between the
boy and his horse and the
photography of them
together.
One caution. The print
of the film when I saw it
was lousy. If you are
going to see a movie like
this, it helps to have the
print perfect. You might
want to call the theater
in advance and see if they
have a good print before
you pay your money. It is
a good movie, rated “G”,
and perfect for the entire
family.

Dick Bolen
Fellowship
To Meet
Full Gospel Business
Men’s Fellowship In
ternational, Perry
chapter, will meet at 7:45
p.m. Friday, December
12 at the Perry Holiday
Inn. The Full Gospel
meetings are for the
whole family and all
faiths are welcome.
The speaker for the
December meeting is
Dick Bolen of Carrollton.
By 1972, Mr. Bolen had
become an outstanding
Baptist Pastor and a
highly respected in
tellectual leader in the
Southern Baptist Con
vention. He was educated
at Mercer University,
Columbia Theological
Seminary, the University
of Chicago and the
Southern Baptist
Theological Seminary.
His climb to a place of
recognition and
prominence among
Southern Baptists in
cluded travels to Viet
Nam where he was in
strumental in organizing
and developing Refugee
Village, for which he was
presented the “Freedom
Foundation Medal” at
Valley Forge, and the
American Red Cross
“Award of Merit" per
sonally from vice
president Hubert
Humphrey. This project
was reviewed in Readers
Digest and resulted in a
tremendous speaking
schedule. Other travels
carried him to Southern
Baptist Mission Projects
in many countries and on
islands of the South
Pacific.
In all of this, Dick
became disillusioned and
depresseed to the point
that his life and ministry
were ruined. He left the
church and his ministry
in 1972. A college
classmate, Cecil Day,
helped him by giving him
a job with “Days Inns,”
where he became highly
successful.
He is now pastor of
Christ Fellowship in
Carrollton, Georgia.
