Many received awards in various areas
Westfield Middle School

Westfield Middle School had
their Honor's Day last Thursday
recognizing their many students for
various accomplishments.
The first awards were given in
academic subject areas. In English,
award recipients were Jamie Dortch,
Scott Hill and Todd Rigdon, fifth

Westfield's sixth-graders also received many awards
...but it was somewhat tougher
Junior Beta Club is formed
at Westfield Middle School
Jeanne Bledsoe announced the
formation of the Junior Bela Club
and named the students selected for
the club. She made the announce
ment at the Westfield Middle
School Honor's Day program and
said selected members hadn't even
been notified they were chosen.
The club is for high achieving
eighth grade students and is de
signed to support excellence in
education and community service.
Those selected for this year
won't be active members, but will
help write the charter, Bledsoe said.
The charter members of the Ju
nior Beta Club are Heather Wilder,
Jill Barr, Shane Hester, Michelle

Jana Abercrombie, Jenny Lark Goss
and Kelli Harold, eighth grade.
In science, those receiving

For social studies, award recipi

computer literacy were Jennifer
Chitty, Jenny Lark Goss and Lori j
Sutton.
Jeff Dehcm, Kendra Hancock and
Marla Massey received awards for
seventh grade reading. Jane Aber
crombie, Mary Margaret Brannen
and Kelli Harold received honors in
seventh-grade communications.
Teachers also recognized those
who participated in literary events
earlier this year, as well as those
who have won honors for Westfield
in a spelling competition. Also
recognized were those who place
high in the Duke Talent Search,
those who received the Presidential
Academic Fitness Award and chap
ter Junior Bela Club members.
