Class rounding up mates for reunion
Attention, all members of the
Perry High School Class of 1980!
Looks like lime has come for
your class to plan its 10th reunion.
I've been to mine (some lime ago!),
and I can tell you it's very
revealing and entertaining and
interesting, and lots of other adjec
tives.
The reunion planning meeting
for the Class of 1980 is scheduled
for Saturday, June 24, at the Perry
Library at 5:30 p.m.
For more information on the
meeting, please call Bcnnclha
Johnson Cummings at 987-0761.
1 got very involved helping with
my class reunion at R.E. Lee in
Thomaslon, and not only was it
interesting, but it was lots and lots
of fun.
Hope the class members will
turn out to help and plan a grand
occasion. It's well worth all the
Graham, Moreland united
Melanie Kay Graham and Claude
Eugene Moreland were married Sat
urday, April 8, 1989, at the First
Baptist Church of Perry. The bride
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Willis H. Graham of Perry, and the
groom is the son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Johnny E, Moreland.
Minister of music and youth,
Larry Wood, officiated. Bob Brewer
sang "Charity," "Sweet, Sweet
Spirit," and "The Lord’s Prayer"
while Marilyn Hooten accompanied
on the piano.
Pally Sawyer, the bride's sister,
was the matron of honor. Brides
maids were Paula Rucker of At
lanta, Denise Davis and Kim
Woods of Perry. The bride's niece,
Natalie Sawyer, was the flower girl.
The groom's brother, Roddy
Moreland, served as the best man.
Groomsmen were Eddie Moreland,
brother of the groom, Ken Davis,
Mike King and Chuck Kezar.
The bride was given in marriage
by her father. She wore a lovely
bridal satin gown with long fitted
sleeves of alecon lace and pearl
buttons and had a scalloped neckline
of deep embellished lace. The waist
was fitted and had a full circular
train inserted with medallion lace
and embellished with seed pearls.
Her matching headpiece was a sheer
filament of lace with seed pearls
around the crown.
The bride carried a cascade of
pink and white roses and baby's
breath.
The bride's attendants wore a
dusty rose gown and carried arm
sheaths of pink roses and carnations
to match. The groom's attendants

Here I go again with my father,
Mr. Tobe Boone Tharpe Sr. who
was bom in the Tharpe and Boone
family December 10, 1851 near
Lizella, Ga., Bibb County.
He followed his older brother,
West Tharpe to Houston Factory
near Perry where he married Mrs.
Eliza Smith. To that union were
two sons and two daughters were
born. I knew three of them.
His second wife was my mother.
To this union seven children were
bom. Only two are living. 1 have
Theodore Tharpe of San Diego,
Calif, whose daughter spent last
week with me.
My mother, his second wife was
Miss Alice Sanders Tharpe who
lived near or between Fort Valley
and Perry. She was beautiful, kind,
a very good cook and dearly loved
by all of her children.
If anyone would like to know
more about my parents just ask Mr.
Jerry A. Davis Jr. of Houston Lake.
My father was bom in 1851 and
passed in 1945. He was the village
blacksmith at Houston Lake for
quite a few years. Several of his
children were teachers and caterers
(very excellent cooks). My father
lived without fear and taught his
children to be good citizens and re
spectful at all times.
He was a farmer near Houston
Lake. He was a very hard worker
and taught all of us to not fear
work. He didn’t allow his girls to
do housework for anyone, but didn't
we work on the farm. I never liked
farm work; so I fought to get an
education. Thanks pop and mom.
My parents arc gone to the great
beyond, but we still cherish them.
They were great.

It's that lime again.
Time for Methodist ministers to
receive their new appointments for
the coming year.
As a long-time member of the
Methodist Church, I know that this
lime always comes for con
gregations and ministers. However,
that docstrl make it any easier
when it's lime for everyone to say
their goodbyes.
Perry has been blessed with
many wonderful ministers over the
years, and and Revs. Carter Berke
ley and Ronnie Register are no ex
ception to this rule. They will be
sorely missed by both their congre
gations and their friends in Perry.
We extend a warm Perry wel
come to the new appointees, the
Rev. James J. McLendon, who has
been at Central United Methodist

John recently completed 15 years

This, in anyone's book, is an ac

John works out of the UPS fa

When asked his "secrets" of how
to accomplish this fine feat, John
said that the two biggest keys to
his safe driving arc wearing his seat
bell and driving defensively.
He also said that all of his safely
