Junior league players at Ochlahatchee Park now;
may become the super heroes of tomorrow's kids

I'hcre arc many ball players at
Ochlahatchee Park that stand out in
their athletic ability and some have
had pretty impressive numbers
added to the columns that appear
alter their names in the scorebooks
of the many teams that play at
Ochlahatchee Park.
Numbers and statistics that you
might expect to come from the
major league players books instead
of junior league players.
We picked one team at random
and asked the coach for some
statistics on a lew of the players on
that team, that ho considered to be
excellent. Here is what we found
out.
Take pitching records for exam
ple. Here is one that will give you
some idea of just who is doing
these amazing things at the park.
Phis boy has a baiting average
of .488, has scored 23 runs, had 16
RBI s made it on base almost 66%
of his times at bat, 14 limes out of
52.
Ik has a pitching record of 9-0,
pitched in 49 innings, gave up 19
hits struck out 101 batters and
gave up 61 walks.
He pitched one no-hitter, one
one hitter, and four two-hitters. His
name Keith Davis of the Bank
ol Perry Junior Team.

. has been drag racing since high school days.
Or how about his one ? He has a
halting average of .636, pitches and
plays short stop, scored 24 runs,
had 20 RBl's and is the leading
team hitter with 28 hits.
Thirteen of those hits were sin
gles, 9 were doubles, three were
triples, and three were what every
hall player wants the most, home
runs.
He has struck out only two
times at hat in 49 times, has been
on base almost 76% of his lime at
hat (37 for 49), and has only made
one error in eleven opportunities.
He threw out eight runners try
ing to score, pitched 1-0, and one
save.
In 15 innings he gave up 12
hits, struck out 15 batters, and
walked 14. He probably is one of
the best hitters in the junior league.
His name ? Matt Shcplcy of the
Bank of Perry learn.
The next boy is a catcher with a
halting average of .450, has scored
17 runs, 15 RBl's and got on base
at least 63.3% of the times at bat.
He has thrown out eight runners
trying to advance, and according to
one coach Bobby Davis, is the
most improved player from last
year's team. His name ? Brian
Rainey of the Bank of Perry team.

Warner Robins Dragway was
host for some of the finest drag
racing in the Southeastern United
Slates over the weekend as mem
bers of the NHRA collected to
gether and spent three days of run
ning down the strip in competition
for the big bucks and points.

Dragster Class” was Bill McCor
mack with an E.T. of 4.155 and a
speed of 181.32 mph for the eighth
mile run. McCormack also took the
low E.T. prize with an E.T. of
4.129 seconds. He then had a lop
speed run of 183.09 mph for the
three day event.
Next in the number one position
for the lop "Alcohol Funny Car"
was Terry Mullins of Oak Ridge,
Tcnn. with an E.T. of 4.170 and a
speed of 178.80 for the win.
Mullins also captured the prize for
low E.T. of 4.170, and had a lop
speed of 180.69.
In the "Comp Class", Garlcy
Daniels of Granlsboro N.C. came
in first driving a 1989 Berctta K/A,
with an E.T. of 5.691 and speed of
126.51.
The winner in the "Super Slock"
class was Kenny Schindler of
Hendersonville Tcnn. driving a
1967 Camera SS/S with an E.T. of
6.561 and a speed of 101.07.
The top driver in the "Slock"
class was Bill Mylin of Charleston
S.C, driving his 71 Camera G/SA,
with an E.T. of 7.759 seconds and a
speed of 89.89.

Garrets holds
tourney in July

Garrett's Furniture will hold an
Invitational Softball Tournament
July 14-16.
The tournament will be held
under USSSA rules for Class C and
D teams. Registration is $ 1 (X) per
team plus one ball per game.

Bank of Perry
wins big over
Tolleson 22-4

The first place Bank of Perry
took on Tolleson Supply in
Ochlatchcc Junior league action
Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
Bank of Perry finished their
record with a winning season by
defeating Tolleson 22-4.
The win for Bank of Perry ended
their season 14-1 and also clinched
the championship for them.
The winning pitcher for the
Bank of Perry was Clint Brandy.
In the second inning Bank of
Perry's Keith Davis ##ls hit a Grand
Slam to help pul the win in the
book for the Bank of Perry boys.
The Tolleson supply boys scored
four in the first and none in the
second, third, fourth and fifth.
The Bank of Perry scored five in
the first, ten in the second, none in
the third, three in the fourth and
four in the fifth.
The Bank of Perry Junior League
Champions will be spotlighted in
the Saturday's July Ist issue of the
Houston Home Journal.

was Jeff Kile of Birmingham, Al
abama driving a 1969 Camera and
having an E.T. of 6.908 with a
speed of 103.86.
The "Best Appearing Car" prize
went to Bogie Kell with an 89 T-
Bird, and "The" Best Engineered
Car" award went to Ron Kcndzior
of Bradenton Florida with a 23-T
Super Comp.
