seven runs in a doublchcadcr as the
Valdosta Giants swept the Ferry
Athletics, 11-4 and 10-3, in the
Athletics home opener Sunday af

In the first game, Virgil New

to three errors.
Newberry retired the first baiter
on a fly out to left before the bot

Sylvester Davis singled to right,
Junior Ponder rcaachcd on an error

Ponder, followed with a hit.
The next batter hit what looked

Garrett's Furniture won the
Dogwood Fesival Tournament by
handling the Perry Bombers 25-4 in
the championship game Saturday
night at Rozar Park.
The Bombers reached the finals
with four wins on the day and in
their fifth game and fourth
consecutive game, were just 100
tired.
Garrett's was well rested, but
also looked like a team that has
been playing together for many
years.
Garrett's, who won the state
class 'C' title last year, defeated All
state Glass, 15-1 to reach the finals
on Saturday.
It was the second time the
Bombers lost to Garrett's. The
Bombers lost 10-0 in Thursday's
game.
In other action, the ETB's de
feated Friend's and Flowers 7-5, but
lost to the Bombers 9-7 to finish
the tournament.
All-State lost to the Bombers 8-
6 in what looked to be the toughest
of all the games.

50-45-41 in the triangular meet.
"I'm proud of our girls, but we
need to gel some distance runners,"
said coach Ron Wilson. "1 think we
will do well when we play in our
region."
Wilson also felt that the compe
tition of a AAAA school brought
out the best in his team.
"We held our own," he said. "I
think when we get to the region we
can steal some points somewhere
compete with Jackson."
Wilson feels Jackson will be the
team to beat for the region title.
"Many people don't believe me,
but I think we can do it," he fin
ished.
Perry ihinclads will be back in
action Thursday when they host
• two region foes in Mary Persons
and Harris County, along with
Jones County.
Starting lime will be 4:30 for
both the boys and the girls meets.
