teams didn't fare much belter. The
No. 1 duo of Cindy Griffin and
Jennifer Yancris lost to Mario
Roney and Bobbie Jo Aughlman, 8-

Sarah Blount and Donna Do
herty, Perry's No. 2 doubles tan
dem, were beaten 6-1 by Becky
Crane and Kyla Thomson.
Although they lost by the same
score as last week, Majors was
pleased with how the Lady Panthers
played.
"They've made some progress
and 1 expect them to get better,”
Majors said. "We'll try to keep

Georgia Tech didn't win it all, so I
wouldn't have to listen to Mark

For now, Mr. Vitale and I can

The Masters begins this weekend
in Augusta. 1 guess the whole suite
of Georgia will lake the week off. 1
know it’s that big down here.
1 like watching the Masters
because it’s some of the most
exciting golf you can ever witness.
Ragin, from ib
Ragin was pretty disappointed
after being taken out of the
Manchester ballgamc.
"I wasn't disappointed that I
came out as much as I was
disappointed in myself," he said.
"Coach (Tim) Simmons told me
the reason that he look me out of
the game was that it was just the
first time 1 had pitched and he didn't
want me to hurl my arm. He
thought I was trying to overthrow
the ball, and he was right."
Ragin attributed the lack of
success in his first outing partly to
nerves.
"I was just overanxious and I
really wanted to do well to help us
win," he said. "I've gotten over that
nervousness and out of that system
now."
Robert Aitkens relieved Ragin in
the fifth inning and finished up for
his first save.
Simmons was elated to see
Ragin bounce back with a good
outing.
"I was really proud of the way
Keith pitched." Simmons said. "He
threw a pretty good four innings
and then we just decided to take him

Thursday, the Perry nctlcrs take
on Mary Persons High School in
Warner Robins at Ted Wright Park.
Majors expects more of the same
out of the boys team, heading into
a big showdown with Manchester,
the lop team in the region, two
weeks from now.
"We've got a lough couple of
weeks ahead of us," Majors said.
"We're all looking toward the
Manchester match, and we'll know
just how good we'll be then."
Griffin is also looking forward
to the Manchester match, when
he’ll face the region's No. 1 player,
Michael Ray.
"I've got two weeks to prepare
for him," Griffin said. "Hopefully I
can get ready before then. I'll need
these next few matches to tunc up
for him."
I know a lot of you out there arc
saying, golf, big deal. I'd rather
watch a tiddly winks game.
But you have to appreciate the
tradition of the Masters. Who can
ever forget Jack Nicklaus winning
his fifth Masters a few years ago?
Or Larry Mize's chip from off the
green to win it late?
Great memories. I only wish
that 1 could be there to sec some, of
it. Maybe someday.
Who'll win this year’s green
jacket? Since I'm on a roll with my
predictions, I'll lake a crack at it.
The Great White Shark, Greg
Norman, is always up for the big
ones. Look for him to walk away
with the jacket and a big chunk of
money.
out and save him since we had a big
lead."
Ragin is one of three pitchers
former coach Ronnie Royslon and
Simmons have employed in the
Panther rotation. Ken Sikes and
Josten Clark, of course, arc the
other two.
Ragin said he's just happy to be
part of that rotation.
"If I can just keep my confidence
up, hopefully 1 can continue to
pitch well and Coach Simmons
will use me more," he said.
”1 think that if we can develop
four or five adequate pitchers, that
will help us down the stretch,"
Simmons said.
"That's what I really was hoping
we could accomplish (Monday) was
that Keith could go out and hold
them and then we'd gel a chance to
use somebody else. It worked out
that way."
Ragin feels he can do nothing
but improve.
"This is a very big confidence
builder for me," he said. ”1 believe
I'll gel belter as I gel out there more
and the season goes on."

back to the mound to stall the rally.
Arrington then got out of the
inning on a pop fly.
The Hornets knotted the score at

Chad Evans reached on a single
and advanced to second on a wild
pitch.
Brian Lewis walked and John

Bobby Thompson grounded into

Mizell drove in three with two

triples hit the lop of the fence and
bounced back in.
"That sure surprised me," said
the diminutive Mizell, who stands

it was going that far. I was just

and one in the bottom of the sixth.
Ragin had an RBI squeeze bunt in
the fourth and Dunlap and Mizell
each walked to drive in a run.
The Trojans scored once in the
third inning and twice in the sixth.
In just his second start, Ragin
got the win. He allowed just one
hit and one unearned run in four
innings and struck out six Lamar
County hitlers.
Robert Aitkens pitched the final
three innings to pick up his first
save. Aitkens struck out five.
"Robert did an excellent job in
relief," Simmons said. "We wanted
to bring someone else in, but we
decided not to. He did a great job in
gelling the ball across the plate."
Next up for the Panthers is
Robert E. Lee High School on
Wednesday in Thomaslon. The
Rebels, along with Jackson, arc the
only region teams yet to face Perry.
