Shown Is "One Day More", the first act finale from the musical presented by
Cameron Mackintosh, based on Victor Hugo's classic novel and the winner of eight
1987 Tony awards, including Best Musical.
Ultimate musical event comes
back to thrill Atlanta audiences
The Theater League of Atlanta
and the Theater of the Stars have
joined together to bring "Les
Miscrables" back to Atlanta. It is
playing at the Fox Theater through
Sunday, April 15, and it is a
theatrical experience you should not
miss.
"Les Miserablcs" is in many
ways the ultimate musical event. It
has the classic storyline created by
Victor Hugo, combined with music
and songs so poignant they reach
into your soul for understanding. If
ever a play could touch your heart,
"Les Miscrables" is it.
The story is epic in proportion,
moving from the hopeless prison
where Jean Valjean is a prisoner to
the Paris barricade where the
students fight for freedom. The plot
moves smoothly and swiftly as we
are introduced to the inhabitants of
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' beat out
other crime fighters in saving world
They're young, they're
green;,they're hardshelled, - they're
teenage mutant ninja Turtles! Get
rid of Superman, bid farewell to
Batman, don't even open the door to
Dick Tracy. As long as these four
fast footed turtles are on the scene
the world is safe. At least that is
the way it is presented in the movie
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."
Upon hearing of this upcoming
movie I immediately thought of the
ill conceived "Howard the Duck."
We all know what a turkey that
film was. Well "Turtles"is nothing
like that. Here we have four well
acted and moveable turtles plus a
wise old rat. They aren't cartoons
and they aren't human. They are
somewhere in between.
In presenting this cartoon series
come to life the makers of the
movie have combined excitement
and adventure to keep the kids alert.
And they have thrown in subtle
humor for the adult audience to
enjoy. In total they have given
something for everyone. The plot
concerns the introduction of
Donatello, Raphael, Leonardo and
Michelangelo (the four teenage
mutant ninja turtles) to a crime
reporter on television, April O'Neil

Valjcan's world. Some are heroic,
some are trite, but all make an
impact.
The musical highlights of this
English language opera are many
but most outstanding in this
production arc " on My Own" sung
by the waif Eponine (Dana Lynn
Caruso); "Bring Him Home" sung
by Valjean (Brain Lynch);
"Soliloquy" sung by the pursuing
policeman Javert (David Jordan);
and "Dog Eats Dog" sung by the
corrupt Thcmardier (Paul Ainslcy).
There is not a weak voice in the
cast and this is remarkable in light
of the fact that the roles also require
strenuous acting skills. Lynch
dominates the cast as Valjean but
that is as it should be as Valjean
dominates the story.

intermission - but the time flies by
as the story unwinds. It is
entertainment full of passion and
emotion. And by the time the show
ends, you've been swept into the
heart of Valjcan's pride and have
glimpsed the true essence of a good
and godly man.
If you can find away to see "Les
Miserables," do so. It is a one of a
kind event that should be seen by
all. GO for the story, go for the
songs, go for the acting, go for the
sets, go for the total thrill of "Les
Miserables."

Entertainment
'Lethal Weapon IT is great
entertainment for action lovers
If you haven't had a chance to
rent the video of "Lethal Weapon
2." you are missing out on a grand
entertainment treat. "2" has more
charm, power and punch than the
first film. Mel Gibson and Danny
Glover offer repeal performance of
the roles that gave them a smash
hit the first time around.
Gibson is the slightly off center
Riggs and Glover is his anchor of a
partner Muriaugh. Together they
careen through a violent adventure
of law and disorder. It is so
powerful and fast moving that they
ought to issue seat belts with the
rental or purchase of this video.
The first scene takes us on a wild
ride through the streets of LA. Our
couple of cops are after two crooks.
With only Murtaugh's wife's
station wagon for transportation
they advance in deadly pursuit of
the wicked ones. When this chase
ends a new suspense scene is ready
to unfold. And in between their are
funny jokes and warmly romantic
sequences. There is nothing you
could want this movie docs not
offer, except a limit on its violence.
Mel Gibson is his most
handsome and romantic self. Plus
he handles the action sequences
with the old pizazz of a "Mad
Max." He is beaten, slabbed, shot
and tossed but still he comes back
for more. And in his calmer
moments he makes love to lovely
Palsy Kcnsit. Their relationship is
a brief oasis between battles but
even here the violence is only a
heartbeat away.
Glover is still the voice of reason
in an insane world. Muriaugh is
steady policeman who tries to
handle Riggs but gels pulled along
into insanity. When the right way
ceases to be effective he is ready to
step outside the law to get the right
results. As played by Glover,
Muriaugh is reasonable to a point
and then he steps over the line to
back up his partner.
The surprise bonus in this
crackerjack film is Leo Getz. Since
he has turned witness for the federal
boys Leo has to be kept in
joined by Casey Jones (Elias
Koteas) as a self styled avenger of
wrongs. He and April at first clash
but later find an attraction between
them.
The movie is a little slow in
parts but on the whole will hold the
attention of the most easily bored
six year old. The turtles themselves
are simply wonderful and seeing
them skateboard, karate chop, and
just move with dexterity is
amazing.
The movie is rated PG for
violence and profanity.
These turtles are pizza eating
paragons of virtue. They are one for
all and all for one as they go about
cleaning up the city. In all fairy
tales and cartoons of the past turtles
were slow and stupid. This movie
puts an end to that image. These
guys are fast footed and fast wilted.
All adults and children should
enjoy this movie. It is fun, fast
moving, and exciting. The people
behind this movie knew all the
right moves and put them on the
screen. "Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles" is a chop-sockey champ.
I scored "Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles" a mean, green 5 out of 10.

protective custody until he can be
picked up and transferred. Riggs and
Muriaugh draw this assignment.
Still they have other work to do so
Leo must tag along. He is the added
wild card that makes the game of
"Lethal Weapon 2" so enjoyable.
Another plus is the casting of
Joss Ackland as the villain. This
man reeks of evil and borderline
insanity. He is a worthy opponent
for our two good guys and demands
all their skills in their battles
against him. They have their guns
and their wits but he has
helicopters, henchmen and an
arsenal of weapons.
The film is rated R for nudity,
profanity and much, much violence.

are its predictability and its length.
Every scene in die early part of the
movie sets up an action in the later
half. Watch for the slrailjackct
scene and then the later unrealistic
one that plays off the first. It is just
100 contrived.
The movie runs about ten
minutes 100 long. A wham bam
ending without the cutcncss of
Riggs and Murtaugh together would
have made a belter film. But hey,
who's arguing here. The movie is
still an action adventure heads and
shoulders above most others. Your
TV set may not be able to handle
all the excitement.
I scored "Lethal Weapon 2" a
double deadly 7 out of 10.
