Panthers B-team rally falls short as
Tabor scores late to pull out victory

After rallying from a 5-run
deficit, the Perry B-tcam Panthers
fell one run short to the Tabor
Tigers, 9-8, Monday night at the
Panther "Pit."
Perry scored five runs in the
sixth inning to tic the score at
eight, but a two-out single by
Kountrcc led to an unearned run in
the seventh inning.
Rountree stole second base and
came home on an error by Jake
Chambers,
Chambers tried to pick him off
second base, but his throw went
into center field and Rountree scored
on the play.

Top-ranked Eagles
overwhelm Hornets

PERRY- Westfield's tennis team
suffered a rough defeat at the hands
of the Stratford Eagles Monday at
Rozar Park.
The Eagles, who arc expected to
be front-runners for the state title,
sent the Hornets home early.
Both of the Hornets #1 seeds,
Terry Watson and Bristol Davis,
were defeated.
Davis fell 6-0, 6-0 to Ami
Lynn.
Watson fell in straight sets to
the # 1 player in the slate in his age
group.
The Hornets girls #2 seed,
Heather Potts, was able to pull a
game out against Amy Jones before
falling, 8-1.
Leanne Smith, the #3 seed for
the Hornets, also fell 8-1 in her
match.
Nova Davis, Natasha Haley, and
Laura Barfield also dropped their
matches.
In doubles the Hornets were a
little more successful.
Potts and Davis gave Stratford's
#2 and #3 seeds a challenge.
Potts and Davis fell 6-4, 6-2.
Roberson
replaces
Hatcher

Houston Lake Country Club has
lost one assistant pro in Richard
Hatcher, but gained another one in
Bryan Roberson.
Hatcher left for Winged Foot
Golf Club in Miramoncck, New
York this week and Houston Lake's
Mike McCollum brought in a
bright, young assistant to replace
Hatcher.
Roberson, 22, is originally from
Wrens, Georgia near Augusta and a
graduate of Mercer University in
Macon. He received his degree this
past year in Management with an
emphasis in marketing and finance.
Roberson was on the golf team
at Mercer, where he received many
honors.
While on the golf team, Rober
son was named captain as well as
being the assistant coach this year.
He also helped propel the Mercer
Johnson set
to sign with
the Dawgs

Staff Writer
Perry High School senior track
star Forest Johnson will ink his
name on the dotted line today
(Wednesday) at 9 a.m. in the Perry
High School gym.
Johnson has committed to the
University of Georgia Bulldogs for
the fall season.
Johnson is a state runner-up in
the 440 and the 200 for last year
and barring injury should be another
stale competitor this year.
Johnson's times have consis
tently been in the high 40's for the
440 and low 20's for the 200 for the
1990 season.
His 48-second run won his last
meet with Harris County, Mary
Persons and Jones County.
Johnson will again be in action
Thursday at the Panther "Pit"
against Dooly County and Ameri
cus and Saturday when the Panther
track team will travel to Carrollton
for the Carrollton Relays.
Johnson is solely a track runner
and will concentrate on running
skills for the Bulldogs.

In the Perry seventh inning, the
B-Panthcrs had their chance to tic or
win the game.

Smith and Davis also were de
feated in straight sets.
The number three seed doubles
did not play because of lime
limitations.
In boys action Watson fell to
start the day.
Jimmy Tate also went down
quickly, as he was defeated, 8-0.
Burkes Young fell to the Eagle's
#3 seed, but Wade Hardy picked up
the Hornets only win with an 8-4
victory.
Both Travis Watson and Ryan
Dchnad lost in their singles
matches also.
In doubles, the team of Jimmy
Tate and Terry Watson dropped their
match, and Burkes Young and Wade
Hardy were defeated in the number
two doubles match.
The Hornet's loss dropped both
teams under .500.
The girls team, who entered the
year expecting a rough lime, is still
looking for their first win.
The Hornets were back in action
against Southland Tuesday in an
other region match.

during his tenure, including the
Mercer Invitational two limes.
The other tournament victories
were in the Valdosta Fall Invita
tional his freshmen year in 1986
and the Georgia College Fall
Invitational.

Perry is now 1-3 on the season
The B-Panlhcrs will travel to
Tabor Thursday at 4:15 and a
rescheduled game with Bleckley
County next Monday to conclude
the season.

counter experience, but I am really
looking forward to working with
the junior golf program," he said.

Roberson is currently living in
Macon but looks forward to Perry
being his new home.
"I feel the opportunity is here,"
he added. ”1 can work three to four
years and Mike could recommend
me anywhere."
He is a big sports fan and enjoys
basketball as well as golf.
