Perry girl netters record
first victory this season
By MARK BLUMEN
Staff Writer
After losing their previous four
matches this spring, the Perry High
School girls tennis team pulled out
a 3-2 victory over Macon County
in a non-region match Monday
afternoon at Rozar Park.
In girls' singles action, Susie
Collins and Jennifer Yaneris pulled
out 8-0 and 8-4 victories. It was the
first time this spring Yaneris had
played in singles' competition.
In Perry's other win, a doubles'
match, the Lady Panthers' No. 1
team of Cindy Griffin and Melanie
Bowers pulled out an 8-4 victory
over Dapanc Bridges and Stacey
Handley.
In the two losses, Perry's No. 2
player Casce Bisbce lost a lough 9-
7 match to Bridges. In the other
doubles’ match, Sarah Blount and
Michelle Jouliane suffered a heart
breaking 8-6 defeat.
The Perry boy netters improved
to 5-0 heading into their match
with region foe Manchester next
week by sweeping the Bulldogs, 5-

sixth inning.
The Athletics sent 14 batters to
the plate and scored eight runs.
Solomon's two-run home run
Austin Kirby's 97.
Team scores went as follows:

Jeremy Pruitt, the No. 3 singles
player, also won easily, 8 1.
Griffin, who is undefeated
through his first five matches as
well, is looking forward to playing
Manchester’s Michael Ray, whom
many say is the top player in the
region and one of the top players in
the state of Georgia.
"I've been looking toward that
match for a while,” Griffin said.
"He's an outstanding player but
hopefully I can play well enough to
beat him."
The Panthers' No. 1 doubles
team, Trent Malone and Lonnie
Elwood, defeated Aaron Sims and
Jamey Tan ton, 8-3.
In a tough match, Tripp Peake

can overcome that.
I'm really looking forward to
seeing what Fulton County Sta

be a lot different.

"Even though the score was 8-1,
most of the matches went to 3-3 or

play hard."
"It was all in the serves," said
Winchester. "The score was not in
dicative of how tough it really
was."
Coach Mike Majors was really
pleased with his team's effort.
"1 feel real good about the girls,"
he said. "They all played hard, and
