things I've accomplished," Palmer
said.
At an early age Palmer remem
bers admiring a local doctor in his
hometown.
"Growing up there was a Dr.
Benton, who impressed me a great
deal. He was old and kind and took
care of everything, every kind of
ailment. Next to my father he was
my major role model growing up.
Watching him, I thought 1 wanted
to do something like that," Palmer
said.
The training he received in medi
cal school served to confirm his de
sire to be a family practitioner.
Upon his 1985 graduation
Palmer moved to Macon to perform
his residency at the Macon Medical
Center. While in Macon, Palmer
met his future wife, Charmainc.

Hamrick estimated that between
750 and 1,000 fish were caught dur
ing the four hours of fishing.
"We have had nothing but good
comments from everybody," he
said. "They enjoyed it."
Other city leaders seemed to
share the feelings.
Perry Mayor JimWorrall noted
that he had received many pleasant
comments from parents during the
rodeo.
The event was supervised by
over 50 volunteers from various
city departments, many of whom
also helped cook lunch for the par
ticipants.
Officials from the Department of
Natural Resources were also pre
sent, and according to Hamrick they
were also impressed with the event.
"They said the biggest one in the
state this year only had about 300
kids," Hamrick said. "So for us to
get 200 our first time is really good
I think."
Hamrick also said the lakes
would be open for public fishing
soon.
The recreation commission,
which will meet Thursday at 7
p.m., is expected to considered reg
ulations for fishing in the lake.

I'm going to take the fifth on that
one.
According to the survey men
would rather be overweight than
have an overweight wife. Seventy
percent said they would rather have
15 pounds added to their weight and
30 percent said they would prefer
their wife gain the weight.
Very understanding answer isn't
it? In an nutshell, it's cool to be an
overweight bum, but heaven forbid
the little woman from getting big
ger. As a man who is ROUGHLY
15 pounds overweight I don't wish
the weight gain on either partner.
Other questions covered, Anita
Hill, most of the guys said Thomas
did speak of lewd matters to her.
There are a number of questions on
marital violence, careers, sex, fi
nances and other gender issues.
The last question I want to touch
on is, "If you ran for President,
would you worry about what a
woman or women from your past
might say to the press?"
Fifty nine percent of the guys
said "No," 41 percent said "Yes."
I submit this question to all the
guys out there. If you knew the
woman you're currently with was
going to tell the national media
most, if not all, of your faults,
would you behave in the same way?
Personally, when I reach 36,
even if there is a draft movement
ala Perot, I absolutely, unequivo
cally won't run because of the
blonde and brunette skeletons in my
closet. You can save this column
and remind of it, if that scenario
ever comes to pass.
The evening news would be just
too painful.
"Brian Lawson for President?
Are you crazy? Let me tell you
about the time he "
The couple moved to Ft. Pierce in
1988, where Palmer opened a fam
ily practice with a friend.
The following year the Palmers
moved to Moultrie, where Palmer
worked in the Colquitt Regional
Medical Center emergency room for
three years.
Palmer was anxious to open a
family practice, and had planned to
do it in Moultrie. But after an offer
from Perry Hospital, and the enthu
siasm of his wife for the city.
Palmer decided to open his office in
Perry.
The Palmers have three children,
Santoya, 5, Samonc, 4, and Joshua,
3. Palmer said he particularly en
joys spending time with his chil
dren.
When he is able to find the lime.
Palmer said, he enjoys fishing,
basketball and is an active member
of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
Palmer said he learned from his
father the importance of treating
each individual the same and that
lesson carries over into how he
treats his patients.
"From the time he was a laborer,
my father has always had a wide
range of people visiting our family
home. From drunks to bankers to
other laborers we were exposed to
all facets of life. Wc learned to
treat people with respect regardless
of their background. Even though
he h i t moved up the economic lad
der and works now as a contractor,

eight teams) with one of them winning first place. The
winning team had to beat the first place seeded base team
twice back to back on July 14 on the road to win the
championship. I know it is hard to cover just some of all
the games played during the summer, as you are only one
person. But a season ending tournament with two Perry
teams in the final four in my opinion should be a high pri
ority.
The boys and parents would have loved the coverage and
enjoyed seeing someone from Perry at the game (other than
our loyal parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters)
covering our teams personally. None the less, we are in the
process of putting together an article and picture to give to
both papers in Perry. It's sad we have to do this ourselves,
but we care about the boys playing in the Perry Recreation
Department leagues.

sure the right people are making the
right differences. If we ignore the
details of a candidate’s profile, who
knows what kind of person we
might elect into an office? But it
sure explains how a lot of people
have obtained the political
positions that they have. No one
bothered to find out any more than
they had to.
