improvements made to them. Recently new signs at the
entrances of the complex have been put up.
Perry apartments
undergo face lift

“We want people to feel proud to
live at Kings Villas,” explains resi
dent manager Jerry Luoma. To that
effect Jerry and his wife Sharlene
have been working hard for die past
year and a half to make improve
ments on the property.
Luoma used the term curbside ap
peal to categorize improvements
made at Kings Villas. “We looked
at the property and decided we
wanted to emphasize curbside ap
peal,” explains Luoma adding that
to achieve die look diey wanted the
grounds have been significantly
spruced up.
The parking lot has been re-sur
faced and new lines laid down, secu
rity lights have been added, new
signs have been put up, pine bark
has been added to shrubbery beds,
10 mph speed bumps have been in
stalled and the sidewalks and curbs
have been high pressure washed
clean.
“All of these things to
gether...gives the whole property a
sense of pride. People live up to the
standards you set for them. We’re
very proud of the people we have
here,” Luoma stated.
Sharlene Luoma explains that
some of the residents have been at
the property for many years. Mattie
Williams is one such tenant. She
has resided at Kings Villas since the
complex opened.

“Everything they’ve done has
made it belter. I love it here,” she
stales.
Annie Mae Mims has hasn’t
lived at the property for quite as
long as Mattie Williams. Mims has
only been there seven years. “1 love
living here. I feel secure. We’ve
seen some improvements,” Mims
said.
Kings Villas are a Farmer’s Home
Community properly. Sharlene Lu
oma explained it is “set up to pro
vide housing for moderate and low
income families.
” Kings Villas consists of 31 one
bedroom apartments and 60 two
story townhouscs. It is situated on
10 acres near Rozar Park, Morning
side Elementary School and Perry
Hospital.
“We are striving to manage in a
professional manner,” asserted Lu
oma. Kings Villas Apartments are
located at 1980 Kings Chapel Road,
Perry.

County 4-H meetings are underway at new school
A new year has started, yet again,
for Houston County 4-H. With this
new year are a few changes. First,
monthly 4-H meetings for 7-12th
graders arc now being held at
Houston County High School.
Also, Senior 4-H members are now
in a new club called Sigma Lamda
Chi, which is a local chapter oi 4-

The Gold Wing Road Riders
Association, a nationwide fellow
ship of motorcyclists riding Honda
Goldwing touring motorcycles, has
chartered a new chapter in Macon
and the public is invited to the
kick-off ceremonies to be held at
Macon's old terminal station Nov.
7. The day's events will include a
motorcycle fun run, people's choice
bike show and a performance by the
Spartanburg South Carolina motor
cycle drill team. Proceeds from the
event will go to benefit the Georgia
Sheriff's Youth Homes.
Concessions will be provided by
Central High School, Sugar Bear
band boosters.
The day’s events begin at 9 a.m.
for those participating in the fun
| run. The public is invited to this
unique event. For more information
on the fun run, motorcycle judging
or any of the other activities, call

Peeks
receive
awards
Tom and Barbara Peek, resident
managers of the Travel Lodge of
Perry recently relumed home after a
triumphant meeting of Trust House
Forte Inc. The meeting, held in Las
Vegas, Nevada, from Oct. 25-30,
brought many surprises and much
deserved awards for the Pecks.
They were presented with a special
plaque for Quality Assurance. The
Pecks' score was 100 percent,
which made the Perry Travel Lodge
the only motel in the chain to re
ceive this award.
They also received awards for Best
Housekeeping and Best Guest
Relations.
They received an award on best
’ guest rooms, an honor because they
• were in competition with many
bigger hotels.

grand new county officers. Senior

One of the important events so
far this year was the Houston
County 4-H Awards Banquet held
Sept. 29. The following 4-Hers
won awards: Lindsey Ethcridgc
"Clovcrleaf of the Year"; Mark
Slaughtcr-"Junior of the Year":
Amy Ludwig-"Scnior of the Year";
The Harris Family-" Family of the
Year”; Marcy Haught-"Cilizcnship
Award" and Paul Kcmp-"Gcorgia
Key Award". Congratulations to
these great, hardworking 4-Hcrs.
Four 4-Hcrs qualified to compete
at State 4-H Congress in Atlanta
this summer. They were Amanda
Moneyhan-Safety; Kathryn Harris-
Public Speaking and Paul Kcmp-
Vctcrinary Science. Marcy Haught
was a state winner in the Teen 111
competition and has won a trip to
National Conference in Washington
D.C. We arc very proud of all of
you. Keep up the good work!
