national forests at meeting

Local Rotarians viewed a 28-
minute video tilled "The
Continuing Forest" which reviewed
forest facts and the condition of the
national forests Monday at their
weekly meeting.
Forester Frank Riley who
brought the video for the Rotarians
to view said, "The forest is ex
tremely important because of our
pulp wood mills. It's a large part of
the state’s economy."
The National Forest Service
was created in 1897 to manage the
timber resource. The Forest Service
is responsible for providing a

the past.
The timber industry is the sev
enth largest manufacturing industry
in the United States. The wood and
wtxxl by-products industries provide
direct and indirect employment for
more than 4 million people. The
industry has nearly Sl9O billion
economic impact, and the United
States is covered with about 737
outlets. Too many plugs in one
outlet may create enough heat to
start a fire.
Keep paper decorations and tinsel
away from hot tree lights. Always
turn off tree lights overnight or
when you're away from home.

Georgia State Patrol in Perry reports
27 Nov. accidents in Houston County
The Georgia State Patrol at Perry
announced today that 27 traffic
accidents in Houston County were
investigated during the month of
November. These accidents resulted
in 18 injuries and no deaths.
In the area of enforcement by
Post 15, Sergeant First Class K.W.
Hancock said his officers made 655
arrests and issued 389 warnings

Various courts in Houston
County disposed of 73 pending
traffic cases during the month with
the following: 38 guilty pleas, 12
bond forfeitures, no cases
dismissed, no eases no record and
23 nolo contendrc please. Sergeant
Hancock explained that eases and
arrests would seldom be the same
number for each month because
some cases are carried over into the
next month to coincide with court
dates.
He also pointed out that fines and
forfeitures amounted to $14,585 for
the month of November which was
paid to the courts of Houston
County.
