Perry police arrest two in
conncetion with burglaries
By ANISSA CLEMONS
Slalf Writer
Perry Police arrested 17-ycar-old
Kerry Mosely earlier this week for
the burglary of Perry Pawn Shop
which occurred Dec. 17.
Mosely allegedly took three guns
valued at SB3O from the pawn shop
located on General Courtney
Hodges Boulevard. Mosely is
currently being investigated by Fort
Valley police for other crimes,
Capt. Jim Hardy of Perry Police
Department said.
“The good assistance from Fort
Valley police led us to Mosely,”
Some healthy tips for dieters
when eating at restaurants
If a few extra pounds arc
following you around after the
holidays, don't add to them by
making some bad choices at
restaurants.
With busy schedules, more and
more people are eating out. Dieters
have some tough choices because
many restaurants, particularly fast
food places, serve many foods that
are high in fat, sodium, cholesterol
and sugar and low in fiber.
"That's changing," said Connie
Crawley, a nutrition and health spe
cialist with the University of
Georgia Extension Service. "More
fast food chains are offering lower
fat, lower sodium, higher liber
menu items. In general, fat has
been cut more than sodium but
progress in both areas is being
made."
Many restaurants are offering
salad bars, broiled, grilled and baked
foods and low fat dairy products.
The french fries and double cheese
burgers are still on the menu but
you've got some other choices,
Crawley said.
Ala cart items can be purchased
rather than grazing at the all-you
can cat specials and buffets. The
giant food bars can be deadly to a
healthy food plan, Crawley said.
Buy the smallest portion sizes
possible. Watch out for words like
jumbo, deluxe and giant. They usu
ally mean larger portions of fat,
sugar, sodium and calories.
"Eat fast foods as meals, not

Hardy said.
There is also evidence that places
Mosely in Perry at the time of the
burglary.
Hardy said they have recovered
one of the guns and are trying to
locate the other two.
Mosely maintains he’s innocent
of the crime, 1 lardy said.
Perry Police also arrested Patricia
Engrain for the burglary of Kwik
Stop which also occurred Dec. 17.
Engram allegedly stole over SIOO
and some cigarettes Irom the Perry
convenience store.
snacks. A 400 to 600 calorie lunch
is reasonable; a 400 to 600 caloric
snack is not," said the home
economist.
Choose roasted, baked, grilled or
broiled menu items. If only fried
chicken or fish is available, remove
the crust and stay away from the
"extra crispy." Broiled, grilled and
roasted fish and poultry tend to have
half the calorics of fried and less fat,
Crawley said.
If you want a sandwich, ask for
turkey, ham or roast beef on whole
grain breads or buns, not croissants.
A single burger with lots of lettuce
and tomato and no cheese, special
sauce, catsup, mustard or pickles is
a fairly low fat, low sodium sand
wich.
Crawley gives other healthy tips
for dining out:
•Choose plain cheese pizza
topped with vegetables like mush
rooms, green pepper or onions.
Order thin instead of deep-dish
crust.
•Order menu items made with
beans like burritos and chili. Add

Hardy said investigators found
Engram’s fingerprints in blood at
the scene of the crime. Engrain ad
mits she burglarized the store, but
she says she didn’t take all the
money missing. Hardy said.
Engram is a former employee of
the Kwik Stop and has a record of
various offenses such as theft,
Hardy said.
Moscly and Engram could get up
to 10 years in prison for their
crimes if convicted.
garban/.o beans, peas and kidney
beans to salads.
•Plain baked potatoes are fat free
unless you add sour cream and
cheese. Instead, top with cottage
cheese or a little margarine.
•Don't let the salad banfool you.
Pass by the mayonnaise-based sal

ular salad dressing, Chinese noo
dles, greasy croutons, pickled veg
etables and syrupy canned fruits.
Pile on raw fruits and vegetables
and add small amounts of ham,
plain tuna, hard-cooked eggs and
cottage cheese. Use diet dressings or
a small amount of oil with vinegar.
•If salad bars are too tempting,
buy pre-packed salads that feature
more vegetables than high fat meats
and cheeses.
•Drink fruit juice, unsweetened o
artificially sweetened tea, diet
drinks, lowfat or skim milk and wa
ter. Even lowfat milk shakes arc
still high in calorics because they
arc high in sugar.
•For dessert, enjoy a small lowfat
frozen yogurt or fresh fruit.
