Susie Toomer Blaine
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Susie Toomer Blaine, 55, of 856 Sarasota Ave.
died January 23. Born in Houston County, she lived in Brooklyn most of
her life. Survivors: husband, David Blaine of Brooklyn; daughter, Robbie
Klccsc of Devil Lake, N.C.; father, Fred Toomer of Perry; brothers and
sisters, Magnolia Worley, Bessie Small, Beverly Simon and Justine
Whitlicld, all of Perry, Doris Canady of Burlingham, N.Y., Maggie
Dykes, Freddie Toomer, Jessie Toomer, Holland Toomer and Lonnie
Toomer, all of West Burlington, N.Y., Edward Toomer of Brooklyn and
Joseph Damn of Erwin, N.C. Services: January 28 in Kingdom Hal! of
Jehovah's Witnesses, Perry. Burial: Mount Zion CME Church Cemetery.

Ray Bozeman Sr.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Ray Bozeman Sr. died January 27 in
Jacksonville. He was born in Danville. Survivors: wife, Mary Roberts
Bozeman; mother, Lucille Bozeman Sanders; children, Barbara Bozeman
Rcgar, Carolyn Bozeman Hall, Bertram Wallace Bozeman, Cecil Ray
Bozeman Jr. andjStcven Ray Bozeman; step-children, Karamaneh Patten,
J.A. Roberts and C.C. Roberts; brothers, B.W. Bozeman of Perry and
Harold Sanders ol Danville; stepsisters and stepbrothers, Julia Vaughn and
Mac Stevens, Paul Sanders of Orange, S.C., and Morgan Sanders of
Danville; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services: January
29 in George H. Hcwcll and Son Funeral Home, Jacksonville. The Rev.
Pat Vaughn will officiate. Burial: January 30 in Lucy Chapel Church and
Cemetery, Danville.
Cyrus Milton
PERRY - Cyrus Milton of 1508 State Extension died January 27 in a
local hospital. Born in Houston County, he was the son of the late Eddie
C. and Celanc Milton. He was a retired employee of Medusa Cement
Plant. Survivors: wife, Ellen Milton of Perry; children, Mary K. Thomas
and Barbara Mobley, both of Miami, Maxine Davis of Putney, Linda
Singletary, Larry Holmes and Jerome Robinson, all of Perry, and Kenneth
Milton and Anthony Milton, both of Tucson, Ariz.; sister and brother,
Mary Louise McCray of Central Islip, N.Y., and Hodges Milton of Perry;
16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services: January 29 in
Mount Ncbo Primitive Baptist Church, Perry. Burial: the church
cemetery. Elder Richard Austin will officiate. Richardson Funeral Home
in Perry had charge of arrangements.
Lehman Cummings
PERRY - Lehman Cummings, 79, of 107 Cardinal Ave, died January
28 in a Macon hospital. Born in Crawford County, he lived in Perry the
past 25 years, moving from Fort Valley and was the son of the late Lewis
and Lila Adams Cummings. He was a retired mechanic for Wingo Garage.
He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors: wife, Eva Bryant
Cummings of Perry; children, Patricia C. Arhccr of Tcnnille, Bobby Ray
Cummings of Fort Valley and Joy Nelson McClelland of Douglas; sisters
and brothers, Avis Green of Warner Robins and Velma Davis and Foch
Cummings, both of Fort Valley; and 16 grandchildren. Services: January
30 at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Houston County. Burial: Perry
Memorial Gardens. The Rev. John O. Yarborough will officiate. Watson-
Hunt Funeral Home in Perry had charge of arrangements.
Car seats are available
at local license stations
Insurance Commissioner Tim
Ryles and Colonel Ronald Bowman
of the Department of Public Safety
are announcing that 500 additional
infant car seals arc available at
driver’s licensing examination sta
tions through the Operation
Precious Cargo program.
The scats arc for infants up to
nine months old and will be loaned,
free of charge, to anyone who can
not afford a scat, or needs one on a
short-term basis. Funding is pro
vided by the Allstate Foundation.
"Preventing injuries has a direct
impact on containing insurance
costs,” said Ryles. "We arc pleased
to continue working with the
Department of Public Safety and
Allstate in making Georgia
Interstates, highways, roads and
streets safer."

sponsor scholarships
The Community Bankers
Association (CBA) of Georgia will
sponsor four merit-based college
scholarships that students may use
at any college or university within
the state of Georgia. CBA will
award the Jan Hester Memorial
Scholarship based on the applicant's
high school academic performance
and involvement, college board
scores and on an essay about com
munity banking.
Applicants for the scholarship
must be high school seniors, and

Mr. Jones will serve as a Civil
Engineer in Tribble & Richardson's
Sanitary Engineering Division.
Jones is a graduate of Auburn
University with a Master of Civil
Engineering, specializing in
Hydraulics/Hydrology, and a
Bachelor of Science in Civil
Engineering.
Jones' previous employment ex
perience includes B&V Waste
Science & Technology (a subsidiary
of Black & Veach) in Atlanta and
the Auburn University Civil
Engineering Department, Auburn,
Alabama.

Brian Jones
FBC will raise
funds for Teresi
scholarship
Sunday, Feb. 7, First Baptist
Church of Perry will be remember
ing long time pastor and friend
Reverend James Minor Teresi by
raising funds at all services for the
Teresi Memorial Scholarship Fund.
This day would have marked
Tercsi's 94th birthday.
Teresi was born Feb. 7, 1899 and
was ordained as a minister Oct. 12,
1919. Born in New York, Teresi
moved to Georgia at the age of two.
He obtained his education from
Mercer University and Southern
Seminary and pastored Kentucky
and Georgia churches for 70 years.
Reverend James Teresi served as
pastor of Perry First Baptist be
tween 1950 and 1965 when lie re
tired. He continued to serve hun
dreds in Waycross, Warner Robins,
Centerville and Fort Valley until he
passed away in 1990.
The purpose of the Teresi
Memorial Scholarship Fund is pri
marily to pay loving tribute to the
memory of Reverend James Teresi
and to additionally provide educa
tional scholarship funds. The recip
ients must have been active mem
bers of Perry First Baptist for one
year prior to the awarding of the
scholarship.
In addition to the donations re
ceived throughout the year, the fund
also receives $2,000 per year from
the church. This is the money paid
annually to Teresi as pastor emeri
tus.
Sunday, Feb. 7 is the day desig
nated to honor the memory of
Teresi. Contributions will be re
ceived by the church from friends
who wish to honor his memory and
support this worthwhile ministry.

Allen B. Davis Jr.
Airman
Davis
completes
training
Airman Allen B. Davis Jr. has
graduated from Air Force basic
training at Lackland Air Force Base,
San Antonio.
During the six weeks of training
the airman studied training in hu
man relations.
In addition, airmen who complete
basic training earn credits toward an
associate degree through the
Community College of the Air
Force.
He is the son of Josic and
William Cox of Bonaire.
The airman is a 1992 graduate of
Warner Robins High School.

Riddles pleased with turn
out at first horse futurity

The maximum number of en
trants, 486, registered in Perry's
first Cutting Horse Futurity
Tournament according to Welcome
Center Director Fay Tripp.
"We figure there were two and a
half people per horse, which
amounts to about 1,000 visitors in
Perry during the tournament," she
said, although exact figures arc not
yet available.
Tripp estimates there were about
2,000 spectators at the tournament,
but she hasn't received the final
numbers.

for last year was $ 192,455.
Accountant Edgar Barfield told
council during his report everything
looked good for the city. He said,
"The bottom line is this, the city
went up a million bucks last year."
The increase Barfield referenced
was the amount of equity the city
gained. It went from 515,477,336
to $16,493,018. Mayor Pro Tern
James Moore said, "I guess what it
all comes down to is it looks
good."
Hay attributed the increase in
equity to the city's acquisition of
Rozar Park from the county along

to "the fact that the horse is a
tremendous athlete, and it's (the
tournament) like a horse ballet."
She said the celebrities that
participated in Saturday's events
also drew a crowd.
More than $50,000 was given in
prize money at the tournament
which was supported tremendously
by the Convention and Visitor’s
Bureau. The tournament will extend
from five days to nine days next
year, as the tournament has re
scheduled for Jan. 7-15, 1994.
The horseshoe pitching compcti-
