WHA T ABOUT THIS?
It is said that the Republican
candidate for congress, James M.
Ashley, is sending, or has sent, out
his letter of acceptance under a
government frank. That is to say,
his letter is inclosed in a letter
containing a speech of a congress
man, which forms a part of the
Congressional Record, b\it of
which Ashley’s letter is no part.
This is strictly a violation of the
postal regulations and the post-
office department's attention lias
been called to same.
There is a penalty of $800 at
tached to a violation of this rule
and it may be that Mr. Ashley and
his co-horts may have to answer for
it. We do not know that the charge
is true, but it is being talked
freely upon the streets, anti much
indignation is expressed that Mr.
Ashley is trying to force his way
into congress by “franking” his
documents out as a part of the
Congressional Record. We think
he is just a bit too “previous.”
We simply call attention to the
rumor that the people may know
what kind of methods are being
used by thji Republican candidate
to further his interest. Of course,
he might have a thousand franks
and use every one of them from now
until the election and it would do
him no good. If the people turn
out to the polls as they should on
Nov. 8th., he will be buried be
neath an avalanche of ballots so
deep that no “frank” can ever
bring him into the limelight
again.
Enon Association.
The Enou Baptist Association held
its fifth Annual session with the White-
hail church beginning last Friday.
Rev. W. L. Barrett was' re-elected
moderator and Mr. C. R. Cantrell was
elected clerk. The Knon is a new as
sociation which bids fair to beeoine the
banner association of the [state.
It is composed of only eleven churches
representing a membership of about
1,300.
The statistical reports from the
churches composing the association
show a healthful growth along ail lines
of church work, as well as substantial
increase m the membership. The re
port shows that the association has giv
en over seven times as much for
ssions this year as it did last.
On Sunday, Rev. D. N. Jordan
preached a most interesting sermon at
9 o’clock, from John 13: 32; at 11 o’clock,
Rev. D. S. Qrindle preached the annual
missionary sermon from Rom. 1: 14,
after which a collection was taken for
missions, \thich amounted to over 812.
The next session, of this association
will meet with the Pleasant Bill Bap
tist church, six miles west of Alto, be
ginning Friday before the 3rd. Sunday
in October, 1005, Rev. D. N. Jordan to
preach the introductory sermon.

“Private Jimmy” In Town.
“Private Jimmy” was in town
this week. Of course, you know
“Private Jimmy”;, he is the guy
that does the Manilla romancing
and philosophising for Fort Me
Phersoti—and they are powerful
good, too—but when they appear
in print somehow the name of
Alan Rogers gets hitched on to tbe
head of ’em, and the old Atlanta
Constitution would'nt seem just
right if these stones did’nt appear.
The last time “Private Jimmy”
was in town, he wae traveling
aloue. Strange it seemed, Mrs.
“Private .Tinmy” was along this
time, and “Private Jimmy” seem
ed “hope up” a bit thereby. They
just took a little spin over these
nice dry mountain roads (not
dusty now) to get a glimpse of the
mountaiuB around Dahlonega, and
we suspect that “Private Jimmy”
will give us something interesting
to read about when he gets back
into one of those little rooms in
that big’building where papers are
piled high aud smoke ie so thick
you could’nt out it with a knife
and a little he-devil always keep
runniug around crying “copy”;
“copy"! Somehow, “Private Jim
my” just simply knows how to
turn out such stuff as makes “in
terestin' reading”, aud it oomes
natural to hunt for his stories first.
Indigestion Causes
Catarrh of the
Stomach.
For many years It has been supposed that
Catarrh of the Stomaoh caused indigestion
and dyspepsia, but the truth is exactly tbs
opposite. Indigestion causes catarrh. Re
peated attacks of indigestion inflames the
mucous membranes lining the stomach and
exposes the nerves of the stomach, thus caus
ing the glands to secrete mucin instead of
the juices of natural digestion. This ft
called Catarrh of the Stomach.
Kodol Dyspepsia Cure
relieves all inflammation of the mucous
membranes lining the stomaoh, protects the
nerves, and cures bad breath, aour risings, a
sense of fullness after eating, indigestion,
dyspepsia and all stomach troubles.

Changed Opinion Of Longstreet.
A Gainesville (Ga.) correspondent of
the Atlanta Constitution, in the issue
of Sept, 35. copies my little item about
the infamous Louisiana lottery and
gives a graphic account of the efforts
made to secure Lieut. Gen. James
Longstreet, C. 8. A., for one of its
commissioners. As high as 850,000- a.
year was offered him as a salary, and
although then a poor man and iu need
of money he Rcorned the offer to be at
the heud of “a game of chance.” In
declining the offer he said: “However
much I may need the emoluments of
the office, mv duty to my people and
to Hie young manhood of the South, as
well as my duty to my Master, forbids
my. acceptance of the offer.” I have
never felt that Gen. Longstreet trea
ted the people of New Orleans prop
erly at a certain crisis, but if he wrote
tbe above, declaration, God forbid that
1 shall ever again mention that matter.
He was my friend in his latter years,
and this was the only thing I scored
against him.”—Sidney Herbert in Sun
day's Savannah Morning News.
