A SEWERAGE SYSTEM.
The question of putting in a
system of sewers in Gainesville
ias been agitated since the water
works system was put in. The
matter has been taken up again
this week, and a number of prom
inent citizens have been consult
ing With-a view to deciding upon
a plan that is feasible*
They have as yet agreed upon
no definite .plqna, but their idea
seems to be to have" the county,

A real live tarantula is not a beauti-

It is to be hoped that the gen
tlemen interested, can select a
plan, by which the city can have
a system^ of sewerage. That
Gainesville needs it, no one will
deny. Thu trash, rubbish and
filth needs to be gotten far out
side the city limits, and the city
will never be and heal thy
as it should be until a system of
sewers is put in.
Cleanliness is next to Godliness,
and Gainesville should be the
cleanest; purest and healthiest
city in C^brgia. The stench aris
ing from decaying vegetation and
impurities, is extremely unpleas
ant and unhealthy, and the city
should by all means adopt some
method of getting rid of this dan
gerous evil.*
We believe a majority of .the
citizens of Gainesville would-'he-
glad to contribute liberally to a
thing from which they would re
ceive somuch benefit.

states that in order to induce the peo

five-eent tickets for SI, and that these
tickets are good for one continuous
passage oyer the street car line to any

that he is endeavoring to make the
.street railway useful to* the citizens,
^and that he thinks the Citizens should
in turn do their part to- make the
scheme successfnl. He is having built
a closed-car for use in the winter,

handsome, and comfortable;
. In addition to this he gives it out
that he is enabled to accommodate any
one in the livery business—that he has

patrons. He desires the patronage of

SHOULD BE A WARNING.
The recent suicide of George
Parrott jr., of Atlanta, should
prove a warning to all youngmen,
and old ones, too, to let specula
tions alone. It is indeed a very
dangerous practice, and thousands
have been rained by foolishly en
deavoring to make money by this
method of gambling.
It is an eyil' that should be
shunned. Men go wild over the
markets when once they get into
it, and frequently when losses are
piled up dn unfortunate specula
tors they criminate themselves
in order to obtain money that
they may make one last effort to
get back what they have put in.
Failing m this, often it is, they
seek to cover np their crime and
hide, their shame an humiliation
in the grave by ending their own
lives.
Too muchcare cannot be exer-
cisectTfTavoiding speculations.
