Railroad Engineer
Testifies to Benefits Received From
Dr. Miles' Remedies.
Here is the way Richard Croker
evens up with the World for its
oft repeated attacks upon the
Tammany leader. The democrat
ic club of New York has adopted
this resolution :
That, following the example of
all reputable citizens and clubs we
exclude from the rooms and strike
from the newspaper list of the
Democratic club the New York
World, an immoral and defama
tory sheet published in this city
both morning and evening edi
tions, for the reason that such
publications are unfit for a place
in any abode or resort of self-re
specting people.
Symptoms of kidney troubles should

wrong. Many persons die yictems of
kidney diseases who could have been
saved had they taken proper precau
tions. The prompt use of Dr. J. H. Mc-
leans Liver and Kidney Balm has saved
thousands of valuable lives. If you
haye any derangement of the kidneys
try it. Price $1.00 a bottle.

NOTES OF THE MINES.
Ourrytiee Yielding - W ell. —Impr ov e-
ment In Betz.—A Good
Clean-Up.
L
Mr. Oscar Szontagb stated this week
that he was taking out lots of ore from
the Curryhee mine near Bowdre, the
yield being very satisfactory. It is un
derstood that this mine is proving to be
one of the best properties in this section
of the mining belt.
Captain H. D. Jaquish, who has for
sometime been operating dredge boats
on the Chestatee river, cleaned up last
Saturday and took out $20 vvorth of ore
an hour. At the close of the day he
had several hundred dollars worth of
ore on hand. This was the average taken
out an hour, and $20 an hour isn’t bad
at all, though he frequently cleans up
this much; but this was a good days
work.
Captain Otto C. Scupin, manager of
the Betz mine, was in the city this week
and brought along some gold bullion
taken from the mine. It was exhibited
to a number, who view T ed it with no
little interest. He says the Betz mine
will sink about six hundred feet, fol
lowing rich veins down that deep. It
is said the ore becomes richer the
deeper down you go, the ore now
taken out being worth $30,whereas the
surface ore is only worth $4. The geol
ogists have contended "that this was
true, so it is said, for sometime, and it
is now shown that they are right. The
Betz mine is one of the best in this
section, and it is being profitably oper
ated by Captain Scupin.
Captain Jaquish and Mr. G. H. Gilson
are at work now on the McClusky mine
and hope to begin operating it soon.
The machinery is being - put in place
and it will not be a great while before
they will begin taking out large quan
tities of ore. The McClusky is consid
ered a good piece of property, and if
there is anything in it at all it will be
found out by the parties now having,
the property in charge.
Your Present Need
Is pure, rich blood, and a strong and
healthy body because with the ap-
pioach of spring and the beginning of
warmer weather your physical system
will undergo radical changes. All the
impurities which have accumulated du
ring colder weather must now be ex
pelled or serious, consequences will re
sult. The one true blood purifier
prominently in the pu blic eye today is
Hood’s Sarsaparilla. Its record of
cures is unequalled. Its sales are the
largest in the world. A few bottles of
Hood’s Sarsaparilla will prepare you
for spring by purifying and enriching-
your blood and toning and invigora
ting your whole system.
In the Race For Clerk.
Since the announcement of Mr. A. R.
Smith that he would not be a candidate
for Clerk of the Superior Court, a num
ber of gentlemen have felt around to
see how the land lay and it is probable
that four, at least, will make the race
for the nomination. One of them is
Mr. Thomas INI- Bell, well known to
the people of the county; another is Mr.
W, Dave Whelehel who is equally as
well known, having been in the race
previously; and still another is Mr. J.T.
Chamblee, of Flowery Branch, a young
man esteemed by those who know
him; Mr. James Marlow will also
very probably be in the race. A±1
of these gentlemen have strong
friends who will back them in theii
candidacy, and it is safe to say that the
race will be extremely lively. Further
announcements are expected.

The original of the phrase “no
tick,” meaning credit, was “on
ticket,” the idea being that artic
les bought and paid for at the
time had to be noted on a ticket.
Ruskin has well sa d : “If you
want knowledge you must toil for
it; if food, you must toil fov it;
and if pleasure, you must toil for
it. Toil is the law. Pleasure
corner .through toil, not by sell
indolence. When one gets to love
work, his life is a happy one.”
We are told that the president
is now torced to act in regard to
the situation in Cuba. It remains
to be seen whether he will act or
not. The foreign policy of the
United States needs some acting
upon by force. Perhaps the pres-
dent will now see the necessity
and do the acting.
To Put In Incandescents.
Mr. C. S. Webb, at the head of a com
pany to be called the Gainesville Elec
tric Light Company, will begin at once
to put incandescent lights into nearly
all the stores, offices and hotels around
the public square. It is estimated that
no less than S00 incandescents will be
put in; the power will be sufficient for
1,000. The lights now being used from
the present circuit owned by the city
will be taken off, so that there may be
sufficient power to enable a number
more arc lights to be placed on the
streets at different places. The move
ment is a good one and will no doubt
prove remunerative to the gentlemen
interested. It is also a progressive
move for the city.
There are many accidents to live
stock which cause delay and loss to the
farmer in his work. In a large num
ber of instances the delay would be
trifling if a remedy was promptly ap
plied. Dr. J. II McLean’s Volcanic Oil
Liniment has for many years been re
garded as the farmers friend, its heal
ing influence on the flesh of domestic
animals is immediate and permanent.

Valuable to Women.
Especially valuable to women is Browns’
Iron Bitters. Backache vanishes, headache
disappears, strength takes the place of
weakness, and the glow of health readily
comes to the pallid cheek when this won
derful remedy is taken. For sickly children
or overworked men it has no equal. No home

Will give three boxes of their Specific
Tablets, worth $2.50, to any one who
may have used as much as one box of
their tablets without decided benefit.
We have never heard of a single case
where the tablets have failed to give
satisfactory results, and if there is a
person to be found who has used them
without benefit we w T ant to know who
he is and where to find him. They
never fail to cure kidney and bladder
troubles and affections of the genital
organs and overcome all debility and
weakness in both men and women.
They improve the appetite, aid diges
tion and assimilation and overcome
constipation. They have vital effect
on all of the secretory organs and es
tablish a healthy condition of the mu
cous and gland secretions in every part
of the body; overcome all torpid condi
tions of the capillaries and secure per
fect circulation of the blood, so that
every organ is supplied and every func
tion is normal and healthy. Being the
only remedy ever compounded that
fully meets the logical physiological
conditions of the human system, it is
no wonder that they give results un
known to medical science. No matter
if the doctors and all remedies have
failed, try the Tablets and be convinced
that they are superior to all known
remedies. Their effect on the nerve
centres is a complete surprise to phy
sicians who have used them. Cases
that have baffled the skill of best phy
sicians and no remedies seemed to ben
efit, have been promptly controlled and j
permanently cured by the Tablets. I
Cases where injections of morphine |
have been resorted to as the only means j
of temporary relief have been promptly j
controlled by the Tablets and the trou- j
ble completely overcome by their use.
