The Thonifisville Times-Enter-
prise, edited by Colonel T liplcit,
has this to say in a-recent issue
about the gubernatorial campaign :
“The place hunters, the profes
sional office holders and. office
seekers, the men who “manipu
late” things, are against Candler.
They know they can’t use or con
trol him. And this is the secret
of Col. Candler’s popularity with
the masses, with those who are
more interested in a strong, con
servative, economical administra
tion of the state’s affairs, than in
dishing out offices to pay political
debts. ”
And this comes fro“m way down
in South Georgia—-down where

and shows who they want tor

sursl v a winner.

Gleaning - Out the Postomce.
Our new postmaster, Col. H. P. Far
row. has been giving - the office a gen
eral cleaning out this week. It seems
that his predecessors have been a little
timid about burning up “dead" matter,
and the result has been a heavy accu
mulation of rubbish. There being no
market for waste paper, it should have
been burned. These accumulations of
twenty years have been burned this
week and among them were found
many things that should have gone to
the dead letter office many years ago.
Among them a very handsomely bound
bible that must have cost ten or twelve
dollars, aud a letter addressed to a per
son in the care of Dr. Bailey, eighteen
years ago, which was put in the doctor's
box for him to dispose of. Some of
these things date back to Postmaster
Archer's day and time twenty years
