Dr. J. B. George has returned home
from a trip to Lexington, S. C., where
he spent several days at his old home
with his mother and relatives.
All*. O. II. King of Marietta, special
agent of the Aetna Insurance company,
was in the city Wednesday conferring
with his local agent, Air. C. A. Dozier.
The First Presbyterian church of
Gainesville took up n special collection
last Sunday for the Cubans; $11.(50
was raised and sent to the Atlanta
Journal.

sioner Robertson Tuesday next. A
number of important matters will .come
up for consideration.
Air. S. C. McCurry, one-of the best
known citizens of the county who lives
near Dip, was in the city Thursday.
He says Candler and Howard Thomp
son are all right up his way.
Hons. Howard Thompson, Fletcher
Johnson and W.F. Findley are in Towns
county this week attending court.
They will also attend Union Superior
court next week. Hon. Howard

Thompson will address the voters of
those counties in the interest of his
candidacy for congress this -and next
week.
Mr. West Buys.
Air. R. H. West has purchased from
Air. Burden, of Buford, his house and
lot on West Washington street. The.
lot is 110x200 feet, and is a good piece of
property. Air. West will improve it,
and will have one of the nicest places
on Washington street.
An Old Spanish Coin.
Air. A. M. Pierce, who lives near
tow*n, plowed up a Spanish coin a few
days ago which was made in 1786, in
the reign of Carolus the Third. It was
in perfect condition and has been re
markably well preserved for the care
it has had. Only a few of these coins
of the above date are in existence.

Sons of Veterans to Meet.
The Sons of Confederate Veterafis
are called to meet at the court house
Tuesday afternoon April 5th, at 3
o’clock for the purpose of perfecting
permanent organization, and preparing
for the coming ne-union of veterans in
Atlanta in July. A full attendance is
desired. The Sons of Veterans will
also prepare to take part in the obser
vance of Memorial day, April 2Gth.

The Hynds Company*will soon move
into the new store rooms of Alessrs.
Brown and Dixon, which have recently
been put up for them. The new rooms
will be used exclusively for a wholesale
department of dry goods and shoes.

occurs. Mrs. Nora Powell and Aliss
Bessie Powell will be in charge of this

Nine Out of Ten For Thompson.
Air. Jeff Hulsey, who lives out on the
Cleveland road several miles from
Gainesville, was in town the other day
and stated that for some time he had
beer; polling the people who passed bis
house on route to Gainesville on the
Thompson and Tate race, tie said that'
nine out of every ten were for Howard
Thompson for Congress, and lie felt
confident that Thompson was safe in
the mountain counties, os raam/ of
those he polled were from that section.
This is a straw which shows in what
direction the wind is blowing.

day from the state printer forty-one
copies of “Georgia Forms and Prac
tices” by Air. J. H.Blount Jr.,-of Alacon.
