THE DANGER
to which the Expectant Mother is
exposed and the foreboding and
dread with which she looks for
ward to the hour of woman’s
severest trial is appreciated by but
few. All effort should be made
to smooth these rugged places
in life’s pathway for her, ere she
presses to her bosom her babe.
MOTHER’S FRIEND
allays Nervousness, and so assists
Nature that the change goes for
ward in an easy manner, without
such violent protest in the way of
Nausea, Headache, Etc. Gloomy
forebodings yield to cheerful and
hopeful anticipations—she passes
through the ordeal quickly and
without pain—is left strong and
vigorous and enabled to joyously
perform the high and holy duties
now devolved upon her. Safety
to life of both is assured by the
use of “ Mother’s Friend,” and
the time of recovery shortened.
“I know one lady, the mother of three
children, who suffered greatly in the
birth of each, who obtained a bottle of
‘Mother’s Friend’ of me before her
fourth confinement, and was relieved
quickly and easily. All agree that their
labor was shorter and less painful.”
John G. Polhile, Macon, Ga.

How He Shot.
A Texas military company was
ordered out on the range prac
ticing at rifle shooting. The lieu
tenant in command suddenly be
came exasperated at the proof
shooting, and seizing one of the
guns from a private cried sharply:
‘-I’ll show you fellows how to
shoot.”
Taking a long aim. and a strong
aim, and an aim altogether, he
fired and missed. Coolly turning
to the private who owned the gun,
he said:
“That’s the way you shoot.”
He again loaded the weapon and
missed. Turning to the second
man in the ranks, he remarked:
“That’s the way you shoot.”
In this way he missed about a
dozen times, illustrating to each
soldier his personal incapacity,
and Anally he accidently hit the
target.
“And that,” he ejaculated, giv
ing the gun back to the private,
“is the way I shoot.”—Los Ange
les Express.
Historic Flag Decaying.
Why the government has not
taken better care of the silk flag
which hung over President Lin
coln’s box in Ford’s theater that
fateful April night in 1865—the
flag over which the assasin tripped,
causing him to sprain his ankle—
is an official enigma. All the
Lincoln relics have been cared for
in £l special museum in Washing
ton, but this flag, while in the
hands of the government, was
given over to the care of the treas
ury department. No special at
tempt has been made to preserve
the silk, and it is likely soon to
decay and disappear. The flag
has a history of its own.
When Jubal Early made his raid
in ’64 around Washington the
male employes of the treasury de
partment organized in defending
the capital. The women employes
could not fight, but they made a
silk flag and gave it to the Treas
ury Guard.
Two nights before the assassi
nation the Treasury Guard gave
an entertainment in Ford’s thea
ter, and the flag was used in the
decoration of the boxes. It looked
so pretty that the manager of the
theater asked that it remain there
a couple of da3 r e, as on the night
of the 14th the president was to
be present at the play. After the
shooting Booth jumped from the
box to the stage. His spur caught
in the flag, and he was thrown
violently to the floor of the stage.
The flag still has the rent in it
caused by the spur.
The treasury people take as good
care of the flag as they can, but
they are unacquainted with the
scientific way to do -it. The heat
of the building is causing the de
cay of the flag rapidly.—New York
Press.
The Bicycle Fiend.
“One of the most obtrusive un
pleasantness in the conversation
of the bicycle fiend,” observed a
non-bicyclist, “is that habit of his
of personally appropriating every
part and particle of his machine.
It is apparently 7 not enough that
he should possess the bicycle in
its entirety, but also in detail.
‘My wheel,’ when uttered, two or
three times to every sentence, is
bad enough, but when it comes to
‘my saddle,’ ‘my tires,’ ‘my valve,’
‘my handle bar,’ and so forth, the
effect is both irritating and irra
tional. I once heard a man dis
course for hours upon ‘my inner
tube.’ Being then not so erudite
upon the thing as I now am, I had
the greatest difficulty in deter
mining what he meant. From the
viewpoint of him who does not
ride, the possessive case is no
where so overworked as in the con
versation with the bicycle fiend.”
