Death of Mrs. C. A. Lilly.
The death of Mrs. C. A. Lilly, which
occurred at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. L. R. Carmichael at McDonough
last Sunday, was an unusually sad one.
She had been ill sometime with fever
and her death was not unexpected.
Mrs. Lilly was well known in
Gainesville where the family resided
for a number of years. She was 56
years old and was a consistent mfcaber
of the Presbyterian church. Her re
mains were brought to the city on the
vestibule Monday afternoon and in
terred in Alta Vista cemetery, the
funeral services being* held in the Pres
byterian church, conducted by Rev. J.
A. Young*.
She lea yes a husband and five chil
dren to mourn her death. The chil
dren are: Mrs. J. A. foanp, of Gaines
ville; Mrs. L. R. Carmichael, of Mc
Donough; Miss Lucy Lilly and Messrs.
Egbert and Charley Lilly,
Robert Lee Longstreet Appointed.
Mr. Robert Lee Longstreet was ap
pointed Wednesday as commissary of
subsistence, with the rank of Major, in
the Second Regiment United States
Volunteers. He is a son of General
James Long-street and was reared in
Gainesville, where he is well known.
Mr. James Long-street Jr. was some
time ago appointed a second lieutenant
and assigned to the light battery at
Griffin. Thus it is both of General
Longstreet’s sons get appointments in
the army.

Gainesville’s Contribution.
Mrs. S. C. Shewmake raised an emer
gency fund of $50 for the soldiers, this
week and sent it to Tampa Wednesday
as Gainesville’s contribution. The
amount was raised fro n among the
citizens, and will no doubt be of much
benefit to the boys serving Uncle Sam
who are needing money,

Sugar Hill Sunday to an all day singing

Our Mr. Thomas Simpson has just re
turned from Savannah, where he at
tended the meeting of the Grand *Lodge
I. O. O. F- He says it was the biggest
thing of his life and he longs to take
another trip.

Mr. T. C. Thompson of Eowdre and
Miss Minnie McDonald of this city were
remarried Wednesday at the home of
Rev. J. T. Curtis who performed the
