BROCK RAN AWAY
With a Young Girl in Candler Dis
trict.
GOVERNOR CANDLER.
j \ profound sensation was created m
Colonel Allen D. Candler^was i andler district . this week when it be-
inaugurated Governor of Georgia j oame knovvn tha t;A. J. Brock had run
last Saturday. The inaugural i avvay Wlth the~th:rteenyear old daugh-
ceremonies were plain, simple and | ter of Mr. S. L. Haynes. □ Brock is a
married man and has three children.
Why Si rock deserted his wife and
children and ran away with the young
girl is not known.. So far as can be
ascertained, no illicit relations have
existed between Brock and Mr. Hayne’s
daughter, and it is generally conceded
that the girl was kidnapped and taken
avvay. I.t is said’jthat Brock bought^a
railroad ticket to some point in Ala
bama and the authorities were wired to
arrest him and the girl. »
Brock is a man who has heretofore
held the confidence and esteem of al
most everybody, It was generally con
ceded that he lived happily with his
family, and he was in fairly good cir
cumstances. Everybody was puzzled
to know why he had taken such a step,
and brought disgrace and mortification
upon his wife and children, and humii-
iated and frightened the family of the
girl.
The greatest indignation is felt in the
Candler community, and feeling against
Brock is running high. When he is
brought back it is feared that he will,
be severely dealt with if the girl’s fam
ily is allowed to get hold of him.
unostentatious. Everyth fug was
in keeping with the modesty oi
the little man, who is a big man,
and who will make Georgia a
great and good Governor.
His inaugural address touched
upou matters of current interest,
and, with the exception of his
views upon territorial expansion,
was almost wholly upon the line
of his letter of acceptance to the
Clarke county Democracy. The
questions of ballot reform and tax
ation. were c>i.sidered at length,
and Colonel Caadler pledged the
legislature every assistance possi
ble to bring about these needed
reforms.
All in ail, his inaugural address
was timely and full of profound
thought, showing that he wa§ in
thorough sympathy with the peo
ple of Georgia in their effort to be
relieved of the burdens which now
weight them down. That his ad
ministration will be an economical

THE EXCELLENCE OF SYRUP OF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fie Syrup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fig Syrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other par
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fig Sykup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families', makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the n ame of

Carter Tate, the nominee, and give
him a big majority over his pop

There is no danger of the Pop

Congressman Tate his majority
will be smaller than it should be.
Remember the election is next

should not cause Democrats to

vote is needed for Congressman

Owing to the dangerous nature of the
