The city council met last Monday
night and —the new members were
swora m. Aldermen Blats and Norris
retired, and Aldermen Huhbard, Hud
son and Webb. Were sworn in, the last
named being re-elected to succeed him
self. After the reports of the various
city officers were read, and the Mayor
-made his address, the, old council ad--,
journed and the n^w took up the reins
of the city government for the coming

Mayor Gaston announce^ the follow
ing standing committees for i&99, the
name of the chairmah of each c6mmit-
tee coming first, ih the order named:,, s

Lyle was dropped from the day force,
leaving only one man for day duty,
Chief Smith. Mr. J. A. Deal was
elected city electrician to succeed Mr.
Fred Koeber, and Mr. J. N. Dorsey was
eleeted city attorney to succeed Mr. J.

Arlington Changes Hands.
The Arlington hotel has changed
hands. Mr. H. NJ O’Neal has sold his
interest to Mr. R. C. Black of Atlanta,
who assumed control January 1st. Mr.
O’Neal v has not decided yet, where he
will locate. He is an excellent hotel
man, a good caterer for trade and will
succeed wherever he goes. Mr. Black
was formerly in the hotel business in
Columbus and Atlanta, ^ and will no
doubt keep the Arlington up to its
present high standard., Mr. Black has
not vet moved his family here but will
