To Petition the Governor.
The State Prison Commission has not
taken up the case of Cassius Law, who
was respited "by Governor Candler
until March 29th. It whs expected
that the ease would he heard this
week but owing’ to the pressing busi
ness of the Prison Commission with
the lease ot convicts, no opportunity
has been given. Drs. J. W. Oslin, T.
C. Gower and W. G. Ham made an ex
amination of Law's condition this week
and serit a certificate to the Governor
to the effect that he was of such a low
order of intellect that he was_not a fit
subject to be hung. Unless the Prison
Commission commutes his sentence' to
life imprisonment or he is given another
respite he will hang next Wednesday
‘ A' petition has been circulated here
this week, and liberally signed, di
rected to the governor requesting him
not to interfere further with the
Sentence. The signers of the petition
do not believe that justice, would‘be
done - to commute his sentence to
life' imprisonment. The petition will
probably , be sent . to the governor

Postmaster H. P. Farrow states that
he will move into the new postofiS.ce at
the Hudson house to-day (Saturday),
and that the office will close at 4
o’clock this afternoon, it being neces
sary to move in the day time^ He has
also given out the following statement
in regard to boxes:
“Yale lock boxes now in use will be
moved into and used in the new office,
hnt the wooden boxes will not be, and
box renters can keep the same box
they now have if they so desire, or they
can take a keyless box if they prefer.
Box rent will be the same, whether old
or new box is taken—50 cents per quar
ter. The convenience of the patrons of
the office and the good of the service
will suggest that as few changes be
made as possible In the number of
patrons’ boxes; therefore, where .per
sons desire to change to one of the new
combination, or ‘‘keyless” boxes, they
will be aflowed to take the same num
ber in the section of new boxes tLet
they had in the old ones.
“There will be a section of “call
boxes” and they will cost only fifteen
cents each per quarter.- These boxes
will be quite a convenience to laboring
men, as they can walk in and look in
their box and see whether there is any
mail for them or not, and if there is
none they ean pass on without loss of
time. If there is mail for them they
can then go to the general delivery and
call for it. This will enable laboring
persons to save a-great deal of time
and will only cost five cents a man th
is cents per quarter.
“There will be a ladies’window and
a gentlemen’s window and no mail will
he passed out to a gentleman through
the ladies’ window under any circum
stances. There will be railings to the
approach to the general delivery win
dows and all persons will be required
to fall in line and bide their time. -
The new office will be one of the
prettiest in the state, and is arranged
with every convenience.S. It will take,
several days to get everything in proper
shape and the public is asked to bear
with the authorities for a little while*
When the arrangement is complete
-there' will not be. a more convenient
office in the country- After today all
patrons of -the Gainesville postoffice
will receive their mail from the new
quarters at the Hudson House.
