the following is a specimen :
“Cancer is hereditary in our family, my father, a
sister and an aunt having died from this dreadful
disease. My feelings may be imagined when the hor

a malignant Cancer, eating inwardly in such a way as
to cause great alarm. The disease seemed beyond the

Numerous remedies were used for it, but the Cancer MRS. s. H. IDOL,

Absurd Law as to Newspapers.
The California legislature has
passed, and the governor has
signed, an act requiring that the
name of the writer shall be signed
to all newspaper articles contain
ing criticism of men, living or
dead. The law is said to be noth
ing short of absurd, as under it it
would be necessary to sign even
routine reports or ordinary court
proceedings. The San Francisco
•papers have deqided that they
will pay no attention to it. If a
suit is brought against any paper,
all of them will stand together in
deiending it and securing a court
decision that will kill the law.
