Big Crowds Attend Show of the Sturgis
Carnival Co.
Have you had your hat knbcked in,
up or off ; have you had your eyes' and
mouth filled with confetti ; or, have
you had your sides punched struggling*
through the crowds? If you have not,
you haven’t been to the street fair and
carniva}, which has held forth on the
public square this week. Return balls
and confetti have played an important
pfLrt in the game, and if you haven’t
had a ball and a pocketfull of confetti,
you haven’t been “in it.” „
The carnival company went to work
Monday morning putting up the tents,
towers, etc., and, by evening of the
same day, some of their shows were
open, and, since that time, everything
has been in full blast. The midway
has been well patronized, and, taken
as a whole, the shows are above the av
erage carnival attractions.
Speedy, the high diver, is a wonder.
From a tower 85 feet high he leaps in
to a tank q± water 36 inches deep, the
tank being 9 feet wide and 17 feet long.
The greatest crowd that ever assem
bled around the public square in
Gainesville, saw him jump Monday af
ternoon last.

There certainly can’t be
any kick coming on this part of the
show for Speedy, in the language of
Alfred Henry Lewis’s “Tammany
Tim,” “Is the greatest ever.”
Lunette, the flying lady; Lotta, m
poses plastique; Zhardinia, the Paris
ian daDcer, and the German village are
among the best attractions ; while the
wild man, the snake eater, the Turk
ish theatre, the old plantation, .the
Ferris wheel, the little world and the
other shows, come in for their share of
patronage.

The Chub Wall case was argued in
the United States court in Atlanta last

does not convene in sometime Judge
Newman’s decision will likely not be
given out in two or three weeks.
