The public roads around here are now in splendid condition. We have got the right kind of commissioners and overseers, and we don’t have any trouble in get ting our roads worked as they should be. - A certain man said he wasn’t going to have the telephone line run through his farm at all, and when the agent Jcame around he didn’t do a thing but sign the con tract. M. C. Buffington, our merchant and postmaster, is somewhat of a farmer, too. Cook is a hustler. Mrs. Mary Moss, of Candler, has been very sick for th« last ten days, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. C. Buffington. Mr. ft. I. Mealor, of Gainesville, is building a tank for the Curra- hee mines. As soon as it is com pleted they will start up again. Claud Miller was seen going up the Oconee Sunday with a derby bat on. When asked where he was going he said he was hunting a wife and that he believed he could make a living for one if be could just find her. Mrs. Jasper M. Hulsey was vis- lius M. Hulsey and J. C. The train will be made up of a number of coaches, and the odd fellows and their friends anticipate a nice time. A rate of $1 has been made from Gainesville, Oakwood and Flowery Branch, and 75 cents from Buford. The tiain will stop only at the above named places. The odd fellows will see that the best of.order prevails, and ladies and children can go on the trip with impunity, and rest assured that no drunkenness or boister ousness will* be allowed. Several men will be detailed to each car to preserve order and to see that there is no ungen tlemanly conduct. Judge J. B. Gaston, Dr. W. A. Palmour and Prof. T* H. Robert son compose the local committee having the excursion in charge. BOWDEE. . Mr. Phillips, from the Seaboard Air Line, has moved to White Sul phur and taken charge of the sec tion there. The shaft on the right side became unfastened from the buggy in some way, and falling upon the hocks of the horse caused it to run. The buggy could not be properly guided and the wheels were drawn upon the stoop in front of Governor Cand ler’s residence, upsetting the bug gy and .throwing both gentlemen violently to the ground*. Black mon; George Lathem and L. P. Canning were appointed a commit tee to arrange tor the picnic, a ma jority of whom are in favor of holding forth at the city park that day and having the Winder and Monroe lodges join in with them in a jollification. The committee will decide at an early date just when and where the picnic will be held. The occasion will be an enjoyable one, as the K. P's. an nual May picnics are always pleasant affairs. I. 0. 0.
