Had a Bad Tumble.
Mr, R. G. Harper, bookkeeper for the
Gainesville cotton mills, had .a bad fall
Wednesday afternoon, caused by his
horse taking* a tumble as he was
cantering* along at a rapid gait. He
was caught under the horse when it
fell, and his head, chest and body were
considerably bruised. He was given
immediate attention and it is believed
that he will soon be all right again.
Death ol a tittle Girl.
; 'The death of Miss Lizzie Roberson,
thp ten-years-old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. William Roberson, at their home
on Mill street, the 17th inst*, caused
much sadness among the family and
her friends. The remains were interred
in Alta Yista cemetery, .
Struck by Falling Timber.
Willie Buffington, aged 21 years, son
of Mr. W. B. Buffington, who lives
about eight miles from Gainesville,
near Duhagan postoffice, was seriously
hurt, Thursday at noon, by being
struck in the forehead by a piece of
falling timber. He was at work in the
woods cutting down some trees, and,
from reports had felled a large one,
when a limb flew back to where he Was
standing, striking him violently and
crushing his skull. Drs. Whelchel and
Eberhart of Gillsville, and Dr. W; A.
Palm our of Gainesville were- immedi
ately summoned and rendered the
young man medical attention.
* Brenau Commencement.
Brenau commencement began last
night with the presentation of “The
Merchant of Venice” by the depart
ment of oratory, under the direction of
Miss Overton. This evening the annu
al concert occurs and a most interest
ing program will be rendered.
Tomorrow morning at 11:30 o’clock.
Dr. W. W. Pinson of Macon, will de
liver the commencement sermon. Mon
day afternoon-and Tuesday afternoon
and evening the musical festival will
take place. Tuesday morning the grad
uating exercises occur, and Honorable
J. M. Griggs of Dawson, will deliver
• the annual literary address.
The commencement exercises prom
ise to be interesting throughout, and
many visitors are expected to attend.

Was Married to Miss Gertrude Jones Over
Tbe Eong Distance Phone.
The friends of Mr. A. E. Lewis, for
merly of Gainesville, will be pleased to
learn of his marriage to* Miss Gertrude
H; Jones, daughter of Col; J. W. Jones,
of Bowdon, Ga., Wednesday, 15th inst.
The wedding was. a* novel one and was
the first of its kind, perhaps, ever per
formed in ..this state.. Mr. Lewis and
Miss Jones were at Bowdon, and, not
having time to go to Carrollton, the
county seat, to obtain the license her
fo^e the hext train left foi? Birnoing*
ham, their present home, the groom
telephoned to Carrollton for the licen
se to lie issued, which was done* , and
they were turned over to a minister,
who had been requested to come to th»e
telephone, which he did, - and per
formed the ceremony. They were

Flowery Branch. School Closes.
The closing exercises of the Flowery
Branch high school commenced Thurs
day evening and were concluded last
night. Prof. W. N. Henderson is the
efficient principal of this school, and
the past term has been a very success
ful one. The closing exercises were
largely attended and much enjoyed.

A Painful Accident.
Mr. Byron Mitchell happened to a
painful accident Tuesday afternoon
which eame near being serious. He
was sharpening a butcher knife with’ a
whetstone, the end of the blade being
stuck in a meat block, his hand hold
ing the handle. In some way the
whetstone slipped and his wrist fell
the keen blade of the knife. A

Teachers for City Public Schools.
At a meeting of the city board of ed
ucation this week* Prof. J. W. Marion
■was re-elected superintendent of the
Gainesville public schools. He has held
this position for the past four years
and has made a most excellent ; Super
intendent.

Ham, eighth, ninth and tenth grades ;
Miss Nannie Mae Shipp, seventh
