I for taxation this year is $2,104,000, as
against |2,077,000 for 1900, a gain of
$27,000. The total receipts of the city
I from ail sources for th<? first half of the
[year, ending July 1st, amount to
$7,614.98, as against $5,596.02, for the
I first six months of 1900, -an increase of
$2,018,96.
The tax rate for 1900 was $1 on the
hundred', whereas the rate for 1901 will
probably be 75 or 80 cents on the hun-
I dred, or 20 or 25 per cent less than last
I year. This is 9, big reduction and the
people can appreciate what the present
administratioh is doing for them.
The rate was increased 10 cents on
the hundred last year in order that the
city might pay off the indebtedness then
hanging over it, which was incurred by
a previous administration, and that the
rate might be made perceptibly lower
this year. The present administration
has accomplished this, and now the peo
ple will get the benefit of a 20 or 25 per
cent reduction., . *

Prevented A Tragedy.
Timely information given Mrs.
George Long, of New Straitsville, Ohio
prevented a dredful tragedv and sayed
two lives.
November 1st., last year, J. D. Jennings came to this place almost a total
stranger, and at once began the practice of what is known as drugless heal
ing as practiced by Magnetic Healers, Osteopaths, Massagists, Christian Scien
tists, Suggestionists, Etc., but as he is honest enough to acknowledge that the
real healer must Conform to the new idea of Metaphysical healing, he has suc
ceeded in building up a large practice, extending from New York to Florida,
having in many states patients to the number of nearly 700.
He makes no fight on medicine or doctors, but produces the effects desired—•
say an emetic, .aperient, astringent, tonic, nervine-?- in fact he* produces any eff
ect that medicines produce, without drugs. He is not a “faith cure” by any
means, but strictly scientific. He treats not only diseases, .but objectionable
habits,, as whiskey, morphine, tobacco, stammering, lying, stealing, poverty, etc.
His office is rooms 3 & 4 over Hunt’s Bank. He edits the North Georgia Heal-
«r, and will send a copy free for stamp. - * .
