The Blue Ridge and Tallulah
Palls exposition company is mak
ing extensive preparations for the
big show which is to be held at
the “Niagara of the south’ ’ from
from September 17th to 20th in
clusive. The objects of the expo
sition is to develop and exhibit
the natural resources of our sister
counties of Habersham, Rabun,
Banks, White and Towns; South
Carolina’s Oconee; and the Tar
heel state’s counties of Macon and
Clay. Public spirited men are at
the head of the enterprise and its
success seems assured.
Hon. Edwin Brobston, of Bruns
wick, who has been visiting the
falls recently, declares that the
exposition is going to be one of the
most attractive fairs ever held in
the state and is bound to draw
}arge crowds of people. Railroads
in the three states interested in its
success haye all granted a one-
fair round trip. He says the dis
play of minerals and hard woods
is going to be something immense.
Besides, he says, nearly every
countryman has a pocketful of
gems and precious stones. One
man at Highlands, N. C., has made
a fortune buying rough stones from
farmers and then sending them to
New York to be cut and afterwards
sold to summer visitors.
Another surprise will be the ex
hibit of manufactured products,
especially the woodworking plants.
A number of distinguished speak
ers have consented to attend, and
the exposition people are count
ing on the governors of three
states—Candler of Georgia, Ay-
cock of North Carolina, and Mc-
Sweeney of South Carolina. Each
of these states is represented in
the exposition and an effort will
be made to have all three gover
nors open the fair with a brilliant
send-off. Among those who are
expected are Senator Clay, Con
gressman Brantley and Judge
Spencer R. Atkinson, and an effort
will be made to get Judge Emory
Speer to make an address.
Mr. Brobston is quite enthusias
tic over the proposed development
of the little Tennessee valley coun
ty by the extension of the Tallu
lah Falls railroad. He has formed
a development company to operate
in that territory and says of that
country it is as beautiful as Italy,
as picturesque as Switzerland, and
as rich as the Band.

The systematic examination of
more than 40,000 pairs of human
ears in England and France has
resulted in some interesting con

ascertained that the ear continues
to grow in the later decades of life ;
in fact, it appears never to stop
growing until death.

The Vermont custom. of not
hanging a convicted murder until
two years after the passing of the
death sentence upon him, is foun

possible doubt as to his guilt will
be removed in that time, and that
all danger of putting an innocent
man to death is thus eliminated.
