Improvements at Postoffice.
Another section of keyless lock box
es and drawers will arrive from In
dianapolis, Ind., in a few days, and
will supply the demand for additional
boxes made by the growth of our city.
This.section will go wh$re the letter
and paper drop box is now, and the
drop box will be'to the right of the
money order window. Postmaster Far
row says the drop is moved in .the in
terest of the ladies,, who have often
been compelled to nnsh their way
through the crowd to drop in a letter.
Now the ladies can get to it to drop in
a letter without coming in contact
with the crowd at the general delivery
window.
xney have, m onr opinion, man
aged the county affairs in a clean busi
ness way and exercised all possible
economy in .considering thej many and
perplexing demands made upon them.
We commend to the people of Hall
county action of Commissioners of
Roads and Revenues in suppressing the
smallpox.
We recommend that J.1“A,* Lyle be
paid for his services as bailiff for the
year 190-1.
We recommend that these present
ments be printed in The Georgia
Cracker and the Gainesville Eagle at
a cost of Ten dollars each.
We extend our thanks to the Judge,
Solicitor General, onr Bailiff and all
court officers for their courteous treat
ment of our body during the entire
court.

ROADS AND BRIDGES.
As usual at this season of the year
our public roads are muddy and; there
are some roads and bridges that need
special attention. We have r addressed
a communication to the Commissioners
of Roads and "Revenues giving detailed
information on these points. There
are many steep hills on the roads and
in many instances the roads could be
made around hills thereby getting an
easy grade. We recommend that the
Commissioners of Roads and Revenues
secure by purchase, if possible, all the
land necessary for such changes.
Where land cannot be purchased the
Commissioners ought to condemn land,
have it appraised, pay for it and change

What is the value of the manus
cript of a sermon that has been
preached? A Virginia court had
the question before it the other
day. A clergyman sued tbe Nor
folk and Western Railroad for the
loss of a satchel contaidg 202 ser
mons in manuscript and a Bible
filled with marginal notes. The
preacher estimated the damage
sustained by him to be $1,060, and
asked the court for that sum.
After deliberating nine houTs the
jury returned a verdict of $250 for
the plaintiff. That would make
the rate about $1 per sermon, with
the rest for the Bible and marginal
notes. The Savanah News, com
menting on this rather unique law
suit, suggests that those preachers
who keep their sermon in barrels
and reverse the receptacles when
:hey accept a call to a new charge
will be apt to regard the price set
on the lost manuscripts as alto
gether too low.

COUNTY HOME.
The county home has- had our spec
ial attention. We ^ are fgratified to find
the inmates well cared for and the bus
iness conducted on an* economical ba
sis. In our opinion the v farm is not
properly equipped with tools, imple
ments and mules, and recommend that
the Commissioners of. Roads and Reve
nues furnish the same. The land prop
erly cultivated would produce cereals
and other products sufficient to furnish
all the inmates. It appears to us that
the commissioners in employing a sup
erintendent for the home ought to be
governed by fitness, capacity,, and not
by the least amount that might be bid
for the place.
The County School Commissioner
submitted his annual report and we;
append the statistical part’to show the
operation of his department.
The annual report of the Commission
ers of Roads and Revenues was sub
mitted to us. The details make it too
cumbersome to insert in our present
