Mr. B. R. Williams’ Doors Closed.
Mr, B*. R. Williams of Flowery
Branch, a .well known merchant of
that town, failed this week. The
sheriff closed his doors and levied on
his stock on account of fi fas. in favor
of Stovall, Calloway & Co., Harris
<fc Bro., and J. J. & J. E. Maddox.
Williams’ liabilities are placed at
about $1000, and his assets at about
$500.

Mr. W. H. Fogg, traveling passenger
agfcnt of the Central’of Georgia Rail
way, spent yesterday in the city. Heis
one of the cleverest men and most sue-:
-cessful railroad men in the country.
Mr. Joseph, Rudolph, of Mentor,
Ohio, has been in the city this week on
a visit - to his cousin, Judge A. Ru
dolph. He. comes South, every winter
and finds the climate here more de
lightful than in any other section,
consequently he stays here longer
than ha does at any other point. Mr.
.Rudolph is a brother-in-law of the late
President Garfield.
Bought Rook Crusher And Roller.
The City Council is determined to im
prove the streets of Gainesville, as is
emphasized by the purchase of a steam
roller and rock crusher at the meeting
of that body Thursday night. It will
be put to work as soon as it arrives,
and the streets will be permanently
improved.
A New Drag Store.
Dr. R. P. Sorrells has rented the va
cant store-room in the Arlington
block from Mr. J. H. Hunt, formerly
occupied by Whiteside’s market, and
will open an up-to-date drug store
there about April 15th. Mr, Hunt is
having the room fitted up for Dr. Sor
rells, and will have it ready for him
by the time the fixtures for the drug
store arrive. Dr. Sorrells recently
moved to Gainesville from Danielsville,
and bought the residence of Mr. John
A. Smith on Green street adjoining
the latter’s new home.
Attention is directed to the an
nouncement of the millinery opening
of Mrs. J. E. Jackson next Tuesday,
March 25th. This is Mrs. Jackson’s
23d season and this is evidence enough
that the people regard her store as
millinery headquarters in* North East
Georgia. The ladies are especially in
vited to see Mrs. Jackson’s pretty
things next Tuesday.
The many friends of Alderman Jim
Williams regret to know that he has
been confined to his bed for a week or
more with a bad case of la grippe.
They hope to see him out again soon.

pleasant visit to her sister, Mrs. A. R

Work on Dr. J. W. Bailey’s new nine
room house on Green street is progres
sing nieelv and it will soon be ready
for a tenant.
Mr. George J. Hanes announces in
this issue for Sheriff. He is a good
citizen and a clever man, and would
make a capable officer. He is running
on his merits, and promises faithful
service if elected,
Mr. C. H, Essig, a member of the
firm of Essig Bros., clothiers, of Atlan
ta, was here a day or two this week,
assisting* Mr. Ike Lipstiue in taking or
ders. He is a clever and agreeable
gentleman and made many friends on
his visit to the city, « • .
At Work at tlie Dam. (
A force of hands is at work at the
proposed site of the dam for the electric
railway and power company at the
Chattahoochee river. Rock quarries
are being opened up for the purpose of
getting stone to be used in construct
ing the dam. Work is to be pushed
ahead as rapidly as possible. It will
require quite a good while to erect the
dam, but when completed it will be a
good one. :
Five Marriages Soon to Occur,
Madame Rumor has it that there will
be five prominent young couples led ^to
Hymen’s Altar in Gainesville during
April. It is said announcements will
be forthcoming shortly. We wish them
all well.
