It is further ordered that all white voters, without regard to past t political affiliations, who desire to align themselves *with the Democratic party, and who, if their right to par ticipate in said election be challenged, pledge themselves to support.the nomi nees of the Democratic party, are here by entitled to vote therein, and are cordially invited to' do so. 11th. It is further ordered that the managers of the yarions precincts shall make their returns to the Secretary of the Executive Committee at the Court house on or before 12 o’clock the day after said primary. And it is further ordered that said Executive Committee shall meet at 12 o’clock on June 6, to consolidate retnrns and declare the re sults, and transact such other business as may come before said committee. And also meet at 12 o’clock on August 8th, to consolidate returns- of county primary and declare results thereof. The following resolution was intro duced by Lester D. Puckett and was adopted by a rising vote: Whereas the sad intelligence has just reached ns that South Carolina’s dis tinguished son, Honorable Wade Hamp ton, who has for so many years illus trated that grand old State not only in * the civic and political fields, of endeav or, but on the sanguinary field of bat tle has shown himself to be a patriot and a military chieftain, has just closed his earthly record and gone to that “bourne from whence no traveler re turns,” leaving a proud State humbled by the dispensation of Divine Provi dence; and Whereas we sympathize with the : people of that State in their irrepara- i ble loss; therefore, be it Resolved, That m the death of this 1 distinguished citizen the Palmetto - State has lost a noble son, the South a j - worthy defender, the nation a wise and conservative statesman, and democracy an able and zealous exponent. i Resolved, further, That the people ( of South Carolina, and throughout the . Sunny South, owe him a debt of grati tude for the redemption of that State * from radical rule in the dark days of i 1876, when surrounded by glittering < bayonets and shining swords of United j States soldiers he stood in the center { of the Paging storm like a stone waU and defied the enemies of civil and po litical freedom, and by his wise conn- 1 sel and patriotic words saved his State ( to democracy and his people and re- r stored her to peace, order and prosper- ity. i Resolved, further, That his name is the vfery synonym of honor, and the fu- ' iure historian will love to tell of his valor and no doubt will represent him as holding up the crumbling pillars « and falling arches of the great Temple j of Liberty, while the Goddess, clad in v the dark habiliments of mourning will „ be represented with her eyes streaming a with tears, looking down to witness a the last funeral pile of constitutional t independence. ^ Bond Election. ■ City of Gainesville. Hali, Co./.Ga. - Whereas, the city of ,j§amesville de sires to incur a bonced debt in the s sum of §50,000 as prescribed in para graphs 1 and 3, section 7, article 7, of the Constitution of 1877, and have - passed the proper ordinance for that purpose. v Therefore, the Mayor and Council of . the City of Gainesville hereby give no tice to the qualified voters of the City of Gainesville that on the 6th. day of May 1902 an election will be held at the city hall in said city of Gainesville, to determine the question whether bonds-shall be issued for said City of Gainesville. * Said bonds to be issued for the fol lowing purposes: $20,000' for the’ purpose of erecting a. modern school building on the School property on Main street, and equip ping the same. $20,000 for the purpose of establish ing a system of sewerage in the city. §10,000 for the purpose of macadam izing the streets of the city. Said bonds to bear interest at the rate of 4 per cent per annum, payable semi-annually on the first days of Jan uary and July of each year. Said bonds to - bear date July 1st. 1902 and fall due July 1st. 1932. None of the principal to be paid off annually, but said bonds to be fully paid off July 1st. 3932. The amount of-.interest to he paid annually to be §2,000, one half Janua ry 1st. and the other half July 1st. of each year. All voters in fayor-of said bonds to have written,or printed on their bal lots “For Bonds” and all voters against the same, written or printed “Against Bonds.” J. B. M. The Democratic Executive Commit tee of Hall county was called to order by the chairman at 11 a. m., and upon roll call every district was found to be represented. Oh motion, the chairman appointed a committee of twenty, being three from Gainesville and one from each militia district, on resolutions, and the same reported back the following rnles.gov- erning the primary, which were unani mously adopted: 1st. That in pursuance of instruc tions passed by the State Democratic . Committee held March, 29, 1902, a gen eral primary election be held on the 5th day of June, 1902, in Hall county for the purpose of selecting Democratic candidates for Governor, Secretary of State, Goinptroiler-General, State Treas urer, Attorney General, State School Commissioner, Commissioner of Agri culture, Prison Commissioner, two Associate Justices of the Supreme Court, Judge of the Superior Court of the Northeastern circuit, Solicitor-Gen eral of the Northeastern Circuit; and that on the same ballot the voter shall he given the opportunity to express his choice for United States Senator. It is ordered, further, in compliance with the rules of the State Democratic Com mittee, that no one shall be allowed to. vote for the above named officers ex cept qualified white. It is further ordered that all qualified white Democratic voters shall have the priv ilege of voting for • any candidates for the offices named in this Paragraph. 3rd. TheJ Executive Committee of each District are hereby appointed .managers of said election in their res pective districts, and authorized to ap point such assistants as they may deem necessary in holding said election, and upon failnre of any of s&id Executive Committeemen to act or make the ap pointments, any three qualified voters of said district may hold the election. The secretary of this committee is hereby instructed to furnish the mana gers at each voting place with two lists of the qualified white voters of each district, one for the qualified voters according to the rule of the State Dem ocratic Executive Committee for the primary of Jime 5th and another for ’ the legally qualified white voters of the county for the primary of August ! ‘7tb. - - 4th. Each candidate for a county •office and for Senator and Representa tives is hereby required to hand his name to the Secretary of this Commit tee, together with such contribution towards the expense of this primary as may be necessary, not to exceed five dollars, at least ten days prior to said primary, and that the candidates for state house offices, Judge and .Solicitor be required to Contribute a sufficient .amount to defray the June primary. 5th. It is ordered that the secretary shall furnish the managers at each vot ing place with such blanks as.shall be necessary in holding said election. 6th. It is further ordered that the secretary of this committee, in conjunc tion witbfthe chairman, shall have a ballot prepared containing a list of the names of all the.candidates for county* offices, all candidates for United States Senator, all candidates for Congress, should the Congressional primary be ordered on the same-day; shall have at least three copies printed thereof and distributed to the managers of said election at each precinct before said election, who shall furnish the same to the voters as they may desire them, and distribute the same among the res pective candidates. 7th.
