CALLED TO TOCCOA
Rev. L, A. Simpson has been
called to the pastorate of the
Presbyterian church at Toccoa,
the call having been made last
Sunday. He formerly resided
there and. the people are very
anxious to have him return and
serve them. It is not known
whether Mr. Simpson will delcine
or accept the call. He is much
loved by his church here, and is
esteemed by the people generally,
and all would hate to see him
leave the city.
retaliate on
Brother Jones.
In pursuance thereto they raised
$1,000 with which to publish a
daily paper to blackguard Brother
Jones and his meetings, and made
a contract to have the work done
at the Savannah Morning News
job office. They engaged two of its
reporters to do the writing while
another was its ostensible, editor.
The contract was made during
Col. EstiU’s absence from the
city and the work was fairly on
before he found it out. He imme
diately summoned his men before
him and told them that that sheet
could not be published in his
office and that it must be sup
pressed. They replied: “Thecon?
tract is made and the money
paid.” Col. Estill responded:

the money to the party paying it.
Mr. Jones is a respectable gentle
man. He is working in a right-
eons cause and represents a large
and respectable religious denomi
nation and he cannot be black
guarded through any instrumen
tality of the Morn ing News. ” He
then turned to the two reporters
who had engaged to do the writ
ing and said: “Young men, you
have the right to do as you please
in this matter, but the day yon
write a line for the parties desir
ing to blackguard Mr. Jones, your
job is forever up on the Savannah
Morning News.”
