Exploring The Florida Side Of St Marys River.
[As per copy.]
» Mr M. J. Fieber and Mr 8. Fink went on exploring trip last Tues
day, on the St Marys River they had heard about the fine blackberrics
grew on the Florida side of the River at vigeon Creek, They walked to
the River and procured 1 boat on the finders keepers order, and started
for Pigeon Creck, and they had no more than made the landing and made
the boat fast than it began to pour down in good shap= and they bhad 12
take refuge 10 an old deserted cabin, the Ramn kept them prisoners until
nine o'clock in the eveninz, they laid on the bare floor and went to sleep
and when they woke found that the Moon was shining and looking at
their watches that it was 2 o’clock in the moraiag, they decided that they
had better start for Home, without the Blackberries, in starting from the
cabin they 1n some way got turned around and insted of going towards
the boat went in the opposite direction and spent the remainder of the
night looking for the boat at about 7 o’clock they hailed 2 man that was
going by 1n a row boat and ask him if he knew where Pigeon Creek was,
he said thathe did and that if they would give him a lift he would take
them there, and to their surprise found that they had wandered away a
bout 15 miles from where they had left their boat, they were gone about
40 hours with only Blackberries to eat but were game to the end and de-~
cided to bring some berrles just to show that there were some there, after
putting the boat back in its place started for home, each ome had one
quart of berries and decided to have done up in Alcohol to preserve them
as a relic of there trin, Mr Fieber says that it was a most delightful trip
and one long to be remembered, and added that if he had to do it over
again that he WOULD STAY AT HOME but the folks in town believe
they were Moon struck.

Mileage Regulation
’ 2
- Upheld By Hines.
Upon the reqeust of i Georgin.
State Railroad Commission, Special
Attorney James K. Hines has giv
en an interesting opinion in regard
to the compiaints made by the trav.
ehog public as to the exchange of
mileage book coupons for straight
tickets at railway agencies. Attor
ney Hines holds that the railroads’
regulation for the presentation an‘i
exchange of coupons for mileage is
entirely reasonable,
Attorney Hines was asked by the
Commission to furnish an opiion
‘upon the right of a common carrier
!to expel a passenger, who had failed
ito comply with its regulation, re.
quiring the exchange of mileage cou
‘pons for a tickets.
~ Attorney Hines says that carriers
of passengers may eject from their
conveyances all persons refusing to
comply with reasonable regulations,
He says that the present mileage
book arrangement is reasonable, be
cause the purchaser enters into
contract with the riilway cowspany
selling the mileage book. One of
the terms of the contract 1s that
coupons from these mileage books
will not be honored on trains except
at non-agency points or at station
agencies not open for the sale of the
tickets,
The purchaser, says Attorney
Hines, gets a reduced rate and he is
bound by the terms of the special
contract, He says in conclusion
that the arrangement has already
been submitted to and approved by
the State Railload Commission.—

, Home,
What s the matter with South East Georgia? Nothing at all. The
trouble is with the eyesight of the northern people, who cannot see any
thing so near home. If they would turn their glasses around they would
find that distance lends enchantment to the view, It i 3 a positive fact
that thousand of home seeker, when they make up their minds to make
a change, are not satisfied, unless they travel a few thousand miles to fina
’what they want. They want the worth of their money in travel,
South East Georgia is too near homs, and so all thess years when
‘the American tarmer from the crowded north and east has been looking
for a new homestead where they coald established a new home, have gone
)to far away British Columbua, Alaska, Old Mexico or Cuba to find what
they wanted, while Southern Georgia, with as rich lands as you can find
in the world, has been overlooked,
Oue of the first thirg a farmer wvants to consider in establishing a
home and a factory is the market for his prodece. It makes agreat dif
ference whether he is three dags from warket, or a few hours. Jackson
ville is only 42 miles away azd one of the best markets in America. The
neXt consideration is climate, for in looking for a home a man wants a
location where the mild and agreeable sea son gives assurance of good
health and long life of economical feediag conditions, maturing of crops
and exemotion from severe frost. With such conditions the farmer and
has a fair prospect for a life of comfort and prospenty, If he finds along
with the above conditions, g rich and practically virgin 80il and a abun
dance of pure water, he surely can have nothing more to ask,
All these conditions ean be found right here in Charlton County,
iwhere our colony is located. Charlton County can accomodate fifty
‘thousand more farmers on 10, 20 and 40 acre tracts and then have land
to spare. As to soil-1t may be said briefly and most emphatically than
there is no more productive soil so be found anywhere than right here 1t
Charlton County. I say, came and see for yourself and then you will be
convinced. Peaches, [éars, grapes strasbetries, blackberries, and dewe
berries, alldo well here. The wild grapes, ‘‘muscadine” blackberries and
dewberries are found in abundance growing wild all over the country,
Melons and vegetables of all kinds do well. Measured by products, by
beulthfulness, and by the satisfaction which one gets out of life, we peo
ple of Charlton County think our lives are cast in pleasant places and we
have no desire to change with any other people in the union. It is e
good fime to visit Southern Georgia night now. [t is not necessary to
want for favorable visiting seasons. Come and see for yourself the riche
ness of the land, and the great need the country has for your presence;
partake of the hospitality of the Georgia peop'e and make note of the ad
vantages in the watter of health and climate that a residence in Georgia,
the banner state of the south, will give you.
