ONE DOLLAR THE YEAR.
TEACHER’S INFORMATION
Supt. Mallard Writes Interestingly of
School Work of the Year Coming.
AAT S A
" Folkston, Ga July 12¢h 1918
To those who expect to teach
and those who are teaching:
We hope that each and every
child will enter school this year
and attend regularly. It may re
quire considerable effort upon the
part -or teachers in the
different schools to bring this about
but itis expectedthat teachers and
trustees and doing and
bring about better results for
this school year than ever before.
It is agreed that State Supt
Brittain was right in saying that a
pupil who had,completed the 7th
gerade, should know:
1. How to speuk the Lnglih
language with fair accurarey,
2. How to write with tair legi
bility, in practicular, ordinary
business letters,
3, How to use the principales of
Arithmetic in ordinary buriness
transactions,
4. How to spell at least the
words used in o Vinary discourse.
5 Enough Geography to appre

7. The value of physiology and
hygiene what it means, wheai

9. The civie virtues to be honcst,

Now teachers are you and [
doing our best in seeing that the
best for the money. is given to the
boys and girls of the county? If
we are all right, if not lets wake up.
Respectiully
L. L. Mallard

Dr. Goloberger’s new slogan for

% What It Use to be.
~ “Cheap land” said Mr. J, E.
Robinson to The Herald a few
days ago, “is plentiful in Chariton,
but not as cheap as it was some
fifteen or twenty years back, I
remember the time when I had
490 acres knocked down to me for
75 ¢ts, the owners refusing to pay
taxes on it Same land brought
me lor the timber wupon it
several hundred dollars, and then
I foolishly thought I had gotten
the good out of it, and let it sell
ngain for its taxes. To day the
same land can not be had for less
than five dollars an acrs’’,
Well, here is where Friend Rob
inson lost a forture. But like the
peuple of to day he could not see
it, If we would onty put our few
dollars in to good land to day, then
boost this county into its own, we
would soon have the best section
of the state, But we must clear
it and farm it, and bring it into a
state of cultivation that will make
us the producing section of the
state,
