School spirit is hard to define.
Perhaps it may best be described
by saving that it is stmething that
escapes aefinition, yet is something
that is so real and active in toe life
of a school thateven the occasion
al vyisitor will soon observe the
presence or lack ot proper school
irit among its students.
‘%roper school spirit demands
that you put the welfare of your
school as a whole ahead of every
thing else. That is, ahead of your
own personal interests. Good
school spirit tends to be concerved
witn everything. Athletic con
tests and parties are not the only
places where it should be strongly
in evidence; indeed, it is mosl
worthy when it makes itself felt at
school activities whiclrmeay not be
so popular. You may attend school
parties and root at basketbal
games, but if you fail to suppor!
other activities, and keep up your
cless work as you shou'd, K:u are.
lacking in school spirit because
you put your own inclinatins
ahead of the best in‘erest of th.
school,
Proper school spirit will make
you coopergtive, will make you
want to “pull together,” [t will
teach you somewhat to sacrifice |
your own wishes for the common
good. If you have it, you will
take part in all activities and do aili
you are asked to do without mak
,ing a “fuss” about it. If you bave
it you will do your best in chapel’
singing and other progrems, and |
vou wi.l beost for all school pla_vs,,
‘evm tuough you failed to receive
a part, |
If you have the right spirit, you
will respect authority. You will'
do what vou are suppored to do!
at school, not because you are‘
made to vo these things, but bns-'
cause you want to do them fnl‘;
the interest of the schooi. In|
’school work proper you'will heea 1
the wishes of your principal ard
!teacher. When you are on the
?athlenc field you will follow the
‘coach or physical training'director-
In other activities you' will abide
by the rulings ot the leader. In
short, you will respect authority.,
