““A LESSON IN THRIFT”
In the passing of Mr. Richard
Powers, st Macclenny, Saturday,
we can point to his life, as a liviug
example of what is really thrift.
He came in to being in this county
sume 73 years ago, and was wed
ded to Miss Burmsed, when a
young: man, and they together
)ave made the pilgrimage through

In spesking of the departed we

can truly speak of the man ard
the opportunity that was his anc
the manner of his seizing it. Mr

where our information telis us he
~as born, marrying at an early
age, he settled down to the re
sponsibilties of a pioneer life and
by his industry and energy in
farming, stock raising and logging
amassed a fortune estimated to be
in the neighbcrhood of a quaiter
of a million dollars. He farmed,
raised stock, turpentined and log
zed. He followed a plan of pul
ting his money in pine lands ol

has passed over the great divide

by the volume of wealth he has
