/ DOUGLAS COUNTY SENTINEL, DOUGLASVILLS, GEORGi Practical Farm Co-oper ation. This is admittedly an age of improved machinery and ad vanced methods in farming. No longer is it possible for the man who arms by the old methods and with the oid tools of our fathers to com ete witn his more progre sive neighbor. If he'un dertakes it he is sure to go down in defeat. But right at this point the ad vocate of advanced methods and improved machinery is met with a staggeringoppjsition. Thous ands of small farmers tell him point blank that they cannot af ford the great outlay of money necessary to stock their farms with the latest labor saving im- pliments And it is the solemn truth. They can’t afford it. It woulu bankrupt them to undertake it. What, then, is the answer? One word —CO-OPERATION! Co-operation in buying and u ing the more expensive iinpliments. Consider Ihe number of days in the year you would use a wheat drill, or a disc plow or harrow, or a binder or a mower, orany one of a large number of implements that are absolutely essential to successful farming- today. It will easily be seen that un less a man is so well-to-do that he could afford to ha.ye capital tied up and lying idle, the plea of the small farmer that he can not afford tile modern tools is the sober truth. But there is a remedy to co-op- Oats Badly Injured Atlanta, Ga , March 1. —Whi'e the recent blizzards fhat swept the3tatein rapid succession were beneficial to the fruit crop, in that they prevented the trees from budding prematurely, there was gederal and severe damage to the oat crop, according to complete reports from all sec tions of the state secured by th? department of agriculture, Es timates range from 50 to 75 per cent of the crop destroyed. What, then, is the necessity for each one burdening himself with a heavy outlay to p.ovide all of the needed tools when hi burden c in just as well be dis tributed among a number with the same satisfactory results? | Arn’t there a number of farm ers in this community who could profit by this plan? If you do not want a partner ship ownership, fearing possible disputes and resultant ill feeling, i let one buy a corn planter, an- j other a drill, and so on down the list. Then Und back and forth, j and you get the same results. But make it co-operative, decide! in advance just what tool each is I to buy, and GET EVERYTHING 1 THAT WILL REDUCE YOUR EXPENSE AND INCREASE YOUR YIELD. Think this suggestion over, friends. One or two or three hundred dollars saved on equip ment could be well invested in live stock and other crying ne cessities on many farms. It is safe to say that no other class of people in the country carry as much ‘dead” capital as do the farmers—the very class who can least afford it. The logical way to release this capital and put it to work is through co-operation as above outlined. J. L. SELMAN & SON C. W. Russell Roofing and Tin W o rk Guaran teed.
