Spelling Bee a Success
The spiling Bee given by the
Civic Club was a success in every
way and netted for civic im
provement quite a neat little
sum.
Mayor Candler was prevented
from coming by an executive
meeting, but notified the club
by a special delivery letter Mon
day afternoon. This was a great
disappointment to every cn>,
but the Club expects to hold
another rpelling match in about
a month, which will be better
in every way and hopes to have
the Mayor out on that occasion.
The ladies of the Club wish to
thank the members of the Geer
Concert Band for the splendid
music and help in every way.
Plenty of Pork.
Plenty of pork in Georgia for
1917 is the m ws that comes from
south Georgia and from mi id’e
Georgia and from north Georgia.
All up and down the state the
smoke houses are full and the
smoke wreaths are curling fr >m
the hickory embers where hams
and shoulders are being cured.
Georgia may be short on cotton
for all future time as the result
of the boll weevil’s dread in
vasion, but there will never a-
gain be a dearth of pork as long
as the doctrine of "live at home”
continues to be practiced
throughout the state.
