...v DOUGLAS COtnmf SENTlNEL, DOUGLASVILLE, GEORGIA PRESENTMENTS OF GRIND JURY We, the Grand Jury, selected, choken and sworn for the March Term, 1917, of Douglas Superior Court, beg leave to submit to the court the following present, ments: ' Report on Ordinary’s Office: We find that the records of the ordinary are systematically ar ranged, properly indexed, and neatly kept. We submit the fol lowing affidavit from the ordi nary, J. H. McLarty: 4EORGIA—Douglas County. To the Honorable Grand. Jury of the March Term, 1917, of Doug las Superior Court: I beg to submit the following report of the office of ordinary to wit: I have not collected any money belonging to Douglas County since my last report and have not paid out any. Respectfully submitted J. H. McLarty, Ordinary. GEORGIA—Douglas County. Personally came J. H. Mc Larty, Ordinary of said county, who being duly sworn, on oath says that the above and forego ing report is true and correct. Sworn to and subscribed be fore me this 19th day .of March, 1917. F. M. Yancey, N. P. & Ex. Officio J. P. We further find, since the last examination of county commis sioners’ books, that they are neatly kept and correct so far as we have been able to ascertain. We find that the commissioners haye received since January 1, 1917, county funds $11.10; road funds, $74.62, and paid the same to treasurer. Following are the reports of Tr R. Whitley, former ehairman of the board of county commis sioners, and A. S. Gresham, present chairman of the board of commissioners: To ihe Honorable Grand Jury of the March Term, 1917, of Doug las Superior Court, I beg leave to submit the following report of the former Board of County Commissioners of Douglas county to-wit: I have received since my last report on the General County Fund from rent of Pauper Farm for 1916 the sum of $65.50 and have paid the same over to the Treasurer, as will appear by reference to Exhibit “A” hereto attached, and m > voucher. 1 have received since my last report on the Road Fund: From sale of pigs raised at the ■convict camp the sum of $35.00 From commutation tax col lected the sum of $15 00 Total received on Commu tation Tax $50.00 And have paid the same over to the Treasurer as will appear by reference to exhibit ‘‘B” hereto attached and my vouchers. We the committee, of the Grand Jury appointed to examine the county school superinten dent’s books, find them to be neatly and correctly kept. We submit the following report to be true: To the Honorable Grand Jury, March Term, Douglas County Superior Court: I We find the pauper farm to be jin good condition undep the man agement of Mr. A. L. Wortham, With the-exception of a few mi nor repair -, which we recemmend 'be attended to promptly. He cares for nine inmates and -pays the county $40 per year for use of land. Wt find he has paid for supplies since last report, $125.69 We find the stockade to be well kept and in gdbd sanitary condition. " ■ After examining the pension roll we find it neatly and correct ly kept. None on the roll have died since the last report. We find 72 soldiers and 36’ widows on the list. RECO M M END ATIONS We recommend that the coun ty commissioners buy two gi od blood-hounds, male and female. On account of the high priie' of foo.'dstuff, we recommend that the sheriff be allowed 60c per day for feeding prisoners, being a raise of ten cents per day over previous allowance. We, the committee of the Grand Gury, have examined the county treasurer’s books and vouchers. We find the books neatly and correctly kept. We give the report as follows: To the Honorable Grand Jury, March Term, Douglas County Superior Court, 1917. Gentlemen: In accordiance to law I herewith submit my report of all receipts and disbursements of money belonging to the Coun ty since last report, namely: Balance on hand of general funds at last report $ 446.60 Received since last re port 8820.01 $9266.61 Paid out since last report. General funds 6860.07 3406,64 Paid out as per vouch ers Checks outstanding Loans and interest repaid Balance on hand $19628.55 Owing to the failure of the State to pay the teachers prompt ly, it was necessary for the County Board of Education to borrow the sum of $8000 00 to meet cuirent bills. This was secured at the rate of 6% per annum. It will be the duty of your body to elect a member of the County Board of Education to fill the unexpired term of Dr. W. K, Burnette, who has resigned.
